Coming in late to this thread. I need a decent suit but I'm trying to keep it under $500. There's a guy in Portland who does bespoke suiting, but it costs $2750 for a two piece -_- Who is this guy, out of curiosity? Also, when you discover the <$500 Portland suit, I would be interested to know about that as well...

Even the cheapest of customs are about $1200 and are still made in Hong Kong.

Anyone gone the indochino route? Seems like a fantastic deal. I've only heard bad reviews about Indochino. Something about wordsmithing to make themselves sound like a better deal than they are. Better options if you don't want to go with a brick and mortar brand are Combat Gentleman and Spier & Mackay.

I've had some luck finding a couple Hickey Freeman suits on MyHabit for $300-400 in the past few mos. Sizes are hit and miss, but they also have some pretty nice Italian names (Armani, Canali, Brioni, Lubiam, Jil Sander, Tom Ford, Versace, Valentino, etc), usually at solid discount, but usually in the smaller sizes.

I got my Hickey Freeman suit from NR a few years back for around $500. I can't recall but I believe it's full canvas and one of their mainline suits. Fits me like a glove.

I've been thinking about a summer suit. I currently only have ones that are best for cooler weather. I rarely wear one so what do you suit guy so think? Been looking at this one. With a 20% coupon it would be less than $600. (I i don't mind the pleaded pants) knickerbockermfg.co/collections/three-piece-sack-suit

I think linen would be more cool and stylish, but I'm from the South, so I'm partial, lol

my gf says I'm not James Bond so linen suits won't work for me....I don't think i would rock that suit like the model and show my ankles but that's just me.

Main thing I like about the knickerbocker is the style. Looks old fashioned now, in 5 years it will still look old fashioned. And not too dressy.

Ok. I was really more interested in people's take on the style. Not what fabric is best. There's a bunch of guys here that are pretty particular about Shirts and jeans. Not about suit styles though? ( my fault, I wasn't clear)

I've got opinions about suits. But buy what you like. I'm an accountant, boring rules.

What's your intended use for the summer suit?
My opinion, and I'm not really a suit guy, is that you would be better to get a typical suit cut, but in a lightweight and more casual fabric. But, all in all, it's not a bad getup I think. But, consider getting the vest in a different color, possibly

Intended use would be general daytime meetings and gatherings. I went at a graduation recently and felt I needed a different suit. I have two that get some use for evening events mainly in the fall and winter and one black three button for funerals etc. I may be best with a blue blazer. Hard to go wrong with that.

German/scots Irish here too. German side won out in my family, but I do have some wild red headed cousins. Ha.

I was going to rec this. Go with a blue blazer, preferably unstructured like SuitSupply in the Havana fit, and a pair of summerweight chinos/tropical wools. In the summer time, I think it's all about the fabric, and structure, or lack of, of the suit, more than the style.
