Guys, I just ordered this wool CPO (85 bucks, shipped) from shop.vtarmynavy.com/fidelity-army-navy-wool-cpo-shirt-p315.aspxThe buttons may or may not be a little goofy, but I'm likely going to swap them out anyway. I'll get it tailored and the buttons swapped out for less than 30 bucks and I'm done. I'll post up when the thing arrives and we'll see what 80 dollars gets you.

That's funny, I just got one of those also! I also bought it from the VT Army Navy store. Many places sell them online, but they seem to have the best price.
So, it runs big. I wear a size large in almost everything. 42 blazer, 35" waist jeans, 16.5/33 dress shirt. The closest item I can compare this to is a Pendleton board shirt. I wear a large in that. The large CPO was huge on me. The shoulder seems were two inches below my shoulder, I could have put on a flak jacket and still buttoned the thing up. The sleeves were really long.
These guys are a legit army surplus store up in VT. They aren't exactly Amazon. Point being if you need to make a return, you need to pay to ship it back and new shipping for the replacement. So that kind of sucks.
I played hooky last Monday and rode my motorcycle up to VT to exchange mine. Granted that cost me more in gas money, but I enjoyed the ride.
I like the shirt a lot. The medium fits me perfectly. The wool is a bit scratchy. You'll need to wear long sleeves under it. It does have liner material along the shirt collar and cuffs, so it feels nice on the skin there. I don't mind the buttons.
These are made by Fidelity sports in Massachusetts. The ones VT army/navy sells have Gov Issue tags, not the commercial Fidelity tags. But I expect the shirt to be extremely warm and mildly water resistant. I'll try to snap some pics wearing mine.

Thanks for the heads up! Seriously.
I'm sure you noticed the wonky security error on the fit fit guide. When I saw that I just sized up to XL (usually large) thinking I'd just layer this thing, how big could it be? After I saw what you wrote I looked online at other sources and realized XL would be a fuggin tent on me. These are cut to Godzilla specs, to quote Old26. When I had a minute today I called the shop and they grabbed my package off the shipping shelf and swapped out for a L. You saved me from a bit of shipping hassle. If I tried to return mine on my motorcycle, I'd be looking at a transcontinental ride. Wait....maybe that's not so bad.
It's still going to be big but the arms and overall length on the medium were on the edge of not working.

A transcontinental ride to return an item is about something I would do lol
Good point on the length. I am wearing mine today and thinking about that. I went with the medium and was just pondering if I could have even gone with the small. But I realized that the side scoops are quite high. I couldn't go any shorter. Fwiw I am 5'10. The medium is perfect.
It's chilly and lightly raining in Boston today. It's the perfect shirt! I'll still try to get those pics this afternoon.

Great pics. That is EXACTLY what I want. I'm 6-2 and about 185-190 so large seems like a good call, I might go a little leaner on the fit from the tailor but not sure. I need to see it in person.
Looking great man, thanks for posting.

My pleasure. Especially since you're going to get it tailored I think you'll be good. You'll enjoy the sleeve and body length of the large.

So apparently this CPO is the same one that i thought i was getting a good deal on, "vintage, ds, blah blah blah".. It still hasn't arrived, so i canceled the order, because watching this convo i see it will be too big. But, the heartbreak fueled my Google-fu to go in to overdrive, and i found this gem. www.guideboatcompany.com/cpo-shirt-jacket.htmlIt's right around the same price as the Gustin CPO, and you get 15% off your first purchase if you sign up for the newsletter. I'm seriously contemplating pulling the trigger

The fabric probably is nicer, but I wonder if the fit is the same. I believe both shirts are made by Fidelity, but come with different tags.

I'm seriously contemplating pulling the trigger aren't they both made by fidelity? i didn't see any sizing info on the guideboat site, but i'd probably want to verify sizing before ordering (to prevent paying significantly more for a similar oversized fit) edit: dave beat me to it.

I thought I read someone here say that 100% wool is bad? that 80-20% is better for durability? Or is that completely wrong?

I have 100% wool Pendletons that are 40 years old, and still look fantastic. My guess is that blended wools are cheaper to produce.

Yes, both made by Fidelity but the model linked above is cut differently than the standard gov issue one that runs around $90. It's made by their fashion line and it is more trim. It is also a wool blend. This retailer has more details on it: Fidelty Gerald & Stewart CPO

Hmm the guideboat one explicitly states 100% wool and it has the red trimming around the hem, I think they're different jackets.

You know how pictures go, but the Guideboat CPO looks better to me than the others. I think that Fidelity makes their standard wool blended shirts, but sell variations of this to other vendors. Guideboat has some nice stuff, but it annoys me that they don't post up any size guides for their shirts.

You can find the fidelity CPO online few places usually under $90. They are all blended now 80/20% vintage will be 100% wool.

The tags on both says "Gerald and Stewart" and "Fidelity"
I think they are the same jacket. A website listing something as 100% wool when it's a blend wouldn't be the first time a website made a mistake. I wouldn't trust it.
The red trim is an interesting difference (and a nice touch.) I bet it's just a different or older run. There is also a red version of this CPO if you scour the web, but looks to be sold out.

The one that runs closer to $200 is from Fidelity's fashion line - Gerald and Steward. It appears to be slightly heavier and cut more fashionably.

I got mine btw....forgot to post up because I've been busy. The large is indeed HUUUGE around the body. The sleeve length is nice though. I'll post pics after tailoring. Mine is the 80/20 military version btw (to save anyone from wondering)

I am thinking of getting one of these, but am going to wait to see what Roman has up his sleeve, as I know they are working on it as I write this, and it should be up with their new site. They are going to offer a Woman's version, as per Allison. Might even pick one up for the wife.

Hi Dave,
Yeah we are about the same size in fact. I did get this in L and I swim in it. Even the shoulders are on the wide side which never happens to me, that's usually the decider between L and XL for me. I'm a slim fit in a standard JCrew dress shirt if that helps. It could be a tiny longer in length but the sleeves are perfect.
