What have you guys experienced? Lower rise seems to make jeans feel tighter to me when jeans have similar measurements.

A lower rise with the same waist measurement will be tighter than a higher rise because they sit lower on your hips. Your waist is likely a smaller diameter than your hips, which is why rise is an important consideration when looking at spec guides

I'm curious how it affects overall pattern. I'd love to see people start listing low hip measurements too. My G jeans have similar measurements to some Iron Hearts I've tried on, but the Iron Hearts feel way less tight across the hip/crotch area. The only difference is about .75" of rise, but the fit is dramatically different.
Rise to blame? Or does G just cut a slimmer profile through the hip?

I think it's a bit of both. .75" of rise can definitely have an impact on how they will fit on your waist/hip. However to your point about the Gustins feeling tighter at the hip/crotch area, I have noticed on several pairs of my G's that the waist at the very top button will be loose or a comfortable fit but then at the 2nd or 3rd buttons down they will be tight at hip/crotch area. It's weird.
