I've got a pair of RRL buckleback jeans that I had the legs tapered. but now the seat and crotch area kind of balloon out a little too much for my liking. Would dipping the waist (it could use some shrinking too) all the way to the crotch shrink the denim a little bit for me? Or am I wasting my time?

Doubtful it will do much for you on sanforized.

It may Tighten it up. I've had Sanforized jeans (Gustin Broken Weaves) shrink when my wife put them in a wash and dryer.

I have a couple pairs of Gustins and they have shrunk considerably after throwing them in the washer a few times. Never in the dryer though. If hot soaking doesn't do anything, does anyone know of a place that will fix the seat and crotch area? I used Railcar for the leg tapering, but they won't touch the seat and or crotch.

AB Fits has "repair" services, I'm not sure if your fix constitutes a repair. But it's always good to ask.

This is the risk when tapering, you modify the cut. If a taper is too agressive this will happen. Reason they wont touch the top block is because the jeans will become even more destroyed, its like changing the foundation on a standing house (not exctly but kinda) and from the little I know its the right descicion to not mess especially with the groin and ass seem, that leaves the outer hip seem and just take the jeans inside-out and you will see the problem of modifying it here.
I would see it as a try and fail and chuck them.

Ya might wanna just soak the problem areas in scalding hot water and chuck them in a hot dryer as a last ditch effort. You'll get some shrink taking these drastic measures.

Hell, boil the top block for a few minutes and then dry them on high in the dryer. Can't hurt if you already don't like the fit. Might help and if not, nothing lost.

Anyone ever tried to shrink the cuff on a pair of G's? Thinking 33 straight is my sweet spot for thigh etc, but I want that cuff down about half an inch. Think a boiling soak would work?

You can probably count on .125 to .25 with an agitated soak or machine wash on warm, but if you're trying to shrink only the cuff and not wash the rest of the jeans, you're better off looking for a fit that matches your desired specs, or getting the straight tapered after you receive them. In case you weren't thinking this way, know that a hem smaller than the knee measurement is typically going to indicate a taper from the knee to the hem, so if you're looking for the knee and calf to stay the same with a smaller hem, you're better off just adjusting to the larger hem.

I'm just a weird body type. Gustin slims fit me fine in the calf and knee, but tight in the thigh. I could ideally shrink from the knee down, but keep the thigh room. I guess a 17.5 inch cuff isn't that bad, so I could just try it and live with the results.

True, but that waist is too big. A final waist of about 34 is perfect. 34.5 starting with stretch would be too big

Had a couple incidents with 2 of my pairs of jeans. A couple what not to do moments. I take fish oil capsules and vitamins twice a day. Sometimes I eat my breakfast when I get to work and you're supposed to take these supplements with food. I put the fish oil and vitamin in my front pocket usually to take later but one day put in my back pocket of LD jeans. I come to empty out my pockets and reach in my rear one and there is an empty fish oil squished capsule. Had a feeling this was going to smell. I smell the pocket and oh yes it reeks of fish. I tried everything to get it out hydrogen peroxide, Shout, OxiClean, vinegar. If anything the smell seemed to spread out more. I decided to try hanging on the line outside in the sun for a few days and sure enough it worked. You gotta love Mother Nature. There is a joke in there somewhere about the LD jeans reeking of fish oil. The other pair were my Naked and Famous Elephant 4. I purchased a small chainsaw to cut some brush and had to buy a new one gallon gas can but couldn't figure out stupid safety Gizmo you had to turn with your hand and then push to get gas to come out. So I finally figure it out and gas goes spraying out and onto my pants. This is not just gas but gas mixed with oil. I washed these in the tub with Costco laundry detergent and hung out on the line and sure enough they smell great no stains. I did use hot water for both. They both tightened up a little bit but will stretch back with a little wear.
