I came across this vintage Singer sewing machine yesterday at the thrift store that I thought you guys might enjoy. I have no clue if this is what a lot of denim companies use to do chainstitches but it looked interesting. If I'm reading the serial# correctly the manufacture date puts this Singer at around ca.1921 or thereabouts. I didn't see a price tag on it but i'm fairly certain someone somewhere will scoop this up and sell it as an antique at an inflated price.

Looks more like a home machine for your basic sewing duties.

it probably is just a regular old sewing machine but it looked pretty cool. I just like old things

What store was this in? I might go take a look.. are you in Minneapolis? If so, I found it at the Savers thrift store out in Bloomington. It was sitting over in the furniture section. The sewing machine is pretty big as its part of a sit-down desk type contraption. you'd need a truck and 2 or 3 people to move it.

A home unit but the decorative paint might make it special.

I didn't see a price tag on it but figured this was one of those finds you won't come across too often, unless you're in an antique store. I saw it yesterday but it could very well be gone.

If you read that article, continue on to the comment by Mohsin, as he actually explains what's special about the union special and where they went, unlike re article.
