I would make the counter-argument that people buy certain expensive brands because of the quality first and foremost. It's up to consumers to determine what they're willing to pay. I would also say that word-of-mouth is typically how brands establish themselves. If you make a high quality product and it shows, then customers will tell anyone who will listen about your brand. If you look around this forum you'll notice that a lot of us post threads about denim brands many of us have never heard of before. Not only does this enable the rest of us to check out new companies but also to see what else is out there.
