Does anybody else think the $147 price tag for this G shirt seem a bit high given the price of other shirts in this price range?

Does anybody else think the $147 price tag for this G shirt seem a bit high given the price of other shirts in this price range? Excuse me if I'm being pedantic, the price seems to be equal to the price of shirts in this price range. Taking your comment in spirit, though, if you can find that fabric made into a shirt at a lower price, go for it. If you don't care about it being selvedge and the material used to dye it, you will most certainly be able to find a blue chambray for less money. If you like heavyweight, wrangle up the iron heart 10oz chambray. it seems to be a crowd pleaser and will save you about $20 or so after shipping from Japan. If you really like the gustin fit, a normal blue chambray (perhaps even selvedge) is bound to come along within the next month or so for $30-$40 less.

Yes it's high when you can buy Japanese repro brands cheaper. It's no secret.

Indeed. Gustin releases shirt that costs more than $76, everyone talks about how it's overpriced. My point was made: If you don't care about that exact fabric, and you don't care about American made, buy the Iron Heart. The stitching is more robust, the heavier fabric will last longer, and as long as you buy it direct from Japan it'll be cheaper. If you want that particular plant dyed indigo chambray, though, the Iron Heart isn't going scratch that itch, and I've not seen any other manufacturer use that particular selvedge chambray, if you have (especially cheaper), please point it out so that people can buy that instead.

Baloney. I am not complaining because Gustin is charging more than $76. I am complaining because they are making the same damn shirt over and over while using (wasting?) really cool fabric to do so. I am complaining about their laziness. I'd gladly pay that amount if they turned it into a workshirt style chambray. Make a different style is all I ask. They clearly can. Don't waste cool fabric by making an office shirt with it when it's the wrong style for that type of fabric. I care about the fabric. My problem is not with the cost of the shirt, or the fact they are charging that much for that fabric, because it's probably worth that much. It's that they've turned it into yet another variant of their endless parade of boring one pocket button down office shirts. Again: not the cost, the execution. EDIT: Well, no, actually, it's the cost too...Is the fabric and labor plus profit worth $147? Probably? But charging $147 for the same shirt, different fabric chafes me. Stop being boring. I think it's insanely high because you have made zero effort to take that cool fabric and turn it into something worth my $147, despite the cool raw materials used.

I do agree with whiskeyriver that a non-button down collar & (selvedge) gussets on their shirts would see me buying many, many more shirts. A nice compromise between the "office shirt" and the workshirt.
