Yeah...you read that right. Buzz Rickson shoes. I splurged (again) and got the Buzz Rickson 1943 U.S. Army Type III Service Shoe. These are "roughouts" and are amazing. History Preservation Associates has a great read on the history of this shoe: www.historypreservation.com/products-page/buzz-ricksons-brands/buzz-ricksons-1943-u-s-army-type-iii-service-shoes/Here are some details on them: • Premium-grade, flesh-out leather uppers, chrome tanned, then vegetable tanned for greater durability and better fit when lasted and worn • Premium-grade, veg-tanned leather welting attached using the Goodyear welting system with heavy-duty corded thread • Quadruple-stitched quarters for durability as per the original spec. then bolstered by a reinforcing rivet as found on the early Type IIIs • Custom-made all-cotton shoe laces that are heavily waxed for greater service life and moisture repellence, as per many of the WWII military shoe laces • Hand-lasted uppers for better fit and comfort • Heavy, non-corrosive steel shank for heavy-duty support and longer shoe life and shape maintenance • Custom-made precision copies of the famous Lite Tread rubber soles and heels from WWII; soles are sewn via the Goodyear welting system employed to make the shoes during WWII, then heels are nailed in place by hand and soles are reinforced with nails at key stress points, precisely matching the original spec. • Premium-grade, veg-tanned leather insoles for better breathing of feet and moisture absorption. And now, some pics! I'm in love.

Great looking boots at a surprisingly reasonable price for the brand. They blow the new G's out of the water on looks alone, and probably won't be much more expensive considering the quality.

You got that right (EDIT: regarding price; no comment to styling or quality of the G). And available from Rakuten at $338. EDIT: OH! And this is a E width shoe, and for anyone that wishes to purchase a pair, be sure to size down ONE FULL SIZE. They run very large. I am normally a 10, but purchased a 9 and they fit perfectly. I normally wear a D width, but these don't really feel much wider. Amazingly comfortable. EDIT 2: global.rakuten.com/en/store/hinoya/item/f03705/global.rakuten.com/en/store/vintage/item/br02610/

I don't know why G was brought up in this thread, but they do look fantastic.

I don't know why G was brought up in this thread, but they do look fantastic. Just probably price and what you get for it. These are likely (though, I can't be certain) a higher quality boot for an equal (or maybe even lower) price. Totally different style and type of boot, however.

I don't know why G was brought up in this thread, but they do look fantastic. I compared them to G because they reminded me of their latest style and the idea that the G's would be maybe $100 more than the high tops, taking them into established brand territory. I haven't looked at the G thread since yesterday, so maybe I was mistaken. They also remind me of my RW IR Hawthorns, but in a good way. And at around $350, these BRs are a steal.

The stitching and materials on that linked pair are different. I can't attest to their quality, so I can't rightly compare the two. All I can say is that the quality of this pair is quite good.

One day, I will buy a pair.

fyi, I had been checking out the boots on that site, mostly for these, which is why I noticed they look an awful lot alike. There are several companies that sell re-pros of the WWII USMC and Army boots (USMC lacks the rivet), WWII Impressions is one of the better regarded, it seems. Popular opinion is that Corcoran makes most of them, though I don't know if this is backed with evidence. Either way, everyone seems to be pretty happy with both them and the Buzz Rickson, and if the leather is anything like the RW Hawthorne Muleskinner (which appears to be Horween Essex oriented flesh-side-out) that's a nice pair of boots you've got there. Anyway, this is what I was looking at in addition to the Army Roughouts, though I don't think I could handle the height, and the sole is a bit clunky:

One day, I will buy a pair. Yes. Those are the boots from your site. White vs. tan stitching, smallish silver-ish vs. larger brass rivet, higher profile heel, chocolate brown vs. deeper brown eyelets, and non-waxed laces. FWIW, I believe Buzz had an earlier version of these that looked a lot more like your boot there. But I can't swear to it. Mister tricky exophobe. Haha.

There area a couple things I've found, as well. As the smaller three pictures on the wwii impressions site show, there are some pretty serious QC issues regarding the stitching and stitching color. There are as many examples that look like the main picture as look like those smaller pictures (which are truly atrocious, and look like the first pair the person that made them ever made). The soles are also different, obviously, and I think the BR's sole looks nicer. All that taken into account, you're likely better off getting the BR boots, especially if you can land them at or around Iron Ranger prices. I'd be more surprised to see the BR repro come with some of the terrible stitching mistakes, whereas with WWIII, it looks like it's luck of the draw. Like I was saying, I had been looking at those this past weekend, so it was interesting to see that you bought some BR reproductions around the same time. The bigger deal is that I'm annoyed as shit my Kendal & Hyde boots came in, and the only partner they were working with that could get the outsole done right is in China, so I paid $300 for some (though admittedly nice) Chinese boots. Should have just bought some brown iron rangers or put a little more money into some OSB Natural Captoe Trench boots.

Yeah I didn't want to mention the terrible stitch job they used as an example of their product in case you had already ordered a pair Haha. Glad you didn't.

If I order from them I'll ask for pics before they send them, because those example shots are bullshit compared to the "hero" shot on the page. I have the RW IR in hawthorne muleskinner, so I can probably do without more roughout for now, even though these are a significantly different style.
