If you need hemming, I definitely recommend ABFits. Stating the obvious for those of you familiar with their relationship with Gustin, but their work is top notch. I sent 4 of my Gustins their for an inch taken off (to enable me a single cuff and some stacking without looking too long) and they did a perfect job with all 4. 3 tonal threads (Japan Graphite, Cone BluexBlack, Grey Silk 2) and one contrast (Amer. Sixteener) and all 4 look great and are sized perfectly. My request ended up making my inseam measurement with a .5 increment and they sewed them up exactly. $60 total ($10 per pair, $20 to ship back) for Gustins. It's more for non-Gustin. And thanks to Samantha who was accessible for my questions and concerns (I had some mail concerns thanks to morons at my post office). She provided tracking info. Overall, it took about 2.5 weeks. Having 6 pairs to rotate while these 4 were out helped.

I don't think I've read anything but high praise for ABFits when it comes to getting Gustins hemmed there. Do they do the Gustin-style red bar tacks and all that?
Regardless, I think I will be sending them a few at some point. Weirdly, all the Gustins I've purchased via B/S/T have had absurdly over-long inseams, 37-38" on all four. (A couple laughably wonky hem jobs on those as well.) By contrast, the ones I've received direct from Gustin were all 35.75-36.75" and the hem stitching was straight as an arrow.

To your question - the denims that I got hemmed - 3 were tonal stitching (Graphites, BluexBlack and Grey Silk 2), the 4th was indigo, but the American Sixteeners didn't come with a bar tack (these were one of the first to start breaking needles before that was a "thing"). I would highly recommend them. They did the chain-stitch on all 4 and nailed my inseam preference (31.5" - not quite as tall as a 34 ish inseam on my Gs). Since they have a special arrangement with Gustin (it's cheaper than other denim to get hemmed there), I would assume they'd do the bar tacks in red as well. If you have any questions, it's samanthal@abfits.com.

Thanks, man. I'd be sending 3-4 contrast (Summerweight, Super Light, Zimbabwe, Okayama Standard) and 1 tonal (Grey Silks), so the red thread issue is definitely a priority. For whatever reason I've become quite attached to the red back tacks and chain stitching on the inside of the hems. I can take it or leave it on the Zimbs, but it really ties the room together like The Dude's rug on the other three.

Nice reference. In terms of chainstitching, it will be red on the indigos with contrast.

Anyone interested in doing the chain-stitching themselves? Used Union Standard machine available on eBay for $550. Okay, maybe I'm half-kidding.

I had been looking for a company that offers chain stitching on selvedge. I have a pair of N&F selvedge chinos I need hemmed. I came across Railcar Fine Goods but it's good to know there are other options out there.

Hey, Gaseous.. while you're checking out Railcar Fine Goods, you might want to grab some of their pomade. It's considered by many to be one of the best water-based pomades out there. Another good one that shares the top spot with Railcar would be Uppercut Deluxe.. maybe more fitting for you with a name like gaseousclay ..someone mentioned domesticdomestic.com earlier.. I think both are available there with free shipping.

Looking to get a few heavy pairs hemmed. Pretty sure they are too heavy for my local old lady to do. Plus she doesn't speak English very well and my mandarin isn't too good.
Looking to get 18oz, 19oz and 25oz hemmed.
Bonus points for a north east shop!

I got my 3sixteens hemmed free from Blue Owl Workshop. I've also read good things about ABfits and Railcar Fine Goods

I just sent off my pair of Taylor Stitch dark indigo's to ABFits today. Now the waiting game. My two experiences (about 6-8 months apart) were both favorable with ABFits: 6-8 months ago: sent 4 pairs of G's to them - paid in cash as well (stuffed it in an envelope and put it in the mail). I was a little apprehensive - but I figured G would back me if something happened with my experience mailing off a quarter of my denim. It was probably 3.5 weeks in total (shipped to delivery). Not bad, but a good option to get some wear in my other denim. 2 months ago: sent 2 pairs to G - paid in cash. Mailed on a Monday, had them back by the following Wednesday (1.5 weeks) - I was caught by surprised, but it was awesome.

I recently got back my pair of Momotaros from them. One leg was a half inch longer that specified and the other 3/4 to an inch greater (varied because the cuff on that leg wasn't done evenly). Samantha did apologize and explained that she was training a new tailor. To her credit, she sent me a shiping label and said they would redo them (thankfully thay had gone too long rather than too short), so my jeans are headed back across the country to SF.

Thought I'd chime in with my ABFits experience. I've now sent in 3 pairs of jeans for a chain stitch hem and they did a great job on all of them. My first pair took a little over 2 weeks and then somehow got rerouted to Colorado, but that was the fault of UPS. My next 2 pair were done in a week and a half. Happy with their service
