I need a hat on vacation to not burn my head. I have hair but its not as thick as it once was.
Im really struggling with finding a hat that i can use. So im 42 and im gonna wear shorts almost gustin style on some and with sidepockets on some. Colors are the modern blue, olive and light khaki.
Im mosty gonna wear just a white tshirt, some polo in light brown, white or a natural linen shirt.
Shoes will be all stars white cloth and other cloth shoes or leather sandals.
But what about the hat? All i can find is like fishermans hat wich imo looks like a junkies choice? Cap doesnt really fit my head/face for some reason...
What are my options?

I travel with a lightweight driving cap. Pairs well enough with casual or semi nicer wear, packs flat (No crush worries), comfy, has a brim for some sun blockage.

If memory serves, you live in the UK, right? If you were in the states, I would say a baseball cap would fit with your described outfits pretty well. Not sure of the availablity or acceptability of baseball caps in the UK/EU though. When you say "cap doesn't fit my head", do you mean a baseball cap?

I think a lot of it also depends on where you'll be vacationing. Coastal/beach vacations you can lean toward a wide brimmed Tilley hat and not stand out too much.

If baseball caps are ok, my fiance recently got me a nike golf dad hat. It has kept my head cool this week in the 75-90F weather. I think its the nike dry fit material that keeps your head from being all sweaty.
A boonie hat that isn't camo can work decent as well if your ok with that.
I have a wide brim circular hat (not even sure what you call it) but it works to keep the sun at bay.

I'm a blue eyed red head,(when I had hair), and a good sun hat is very important to me now days. Actually just had a spot removed on my neck yesterday, which the dermatologist suspects basil cell cancer, but I've done this drill before, and paying the price for more sunburns that can be counted as a youth. Nothing to fool around with guys, as melanomas can pop up in much younger people, and kills in short order. Back to hats. Panama's are excellent for protection, and style, but can be pricey. I've got one I had made years ago from Ecuador, that took 6 weeks to weave, but is delicate, and you don't want these to get wet. I've got an Akubra on the way from Australia, which I hope to have in hand by the next couple of days. They make great hats, at a decent price, and have great reviews. Cigar not included. thehatstore.com.au/mens/by-category/straw/akubra-range-larger-brim.html

Yeah baseballcap is not something that fits me. I duuno exactly why but it just doesnt look good on me, and Im also a little unsure if the general style is me. (im in the North btw). What I have been wearing the most for the past 10 years is the military version of a cap, wich is a little flatter and more square, but im really feeling Im too old for this style since its mostly 20-something aged people here wearing it. It does fit my head really good tho, I have one olive and a navy bilabong but yeah I feel its a mismatch nowdays.
A driving cap could work, they certainly have the right class while still being cool.
Tilley hat looks like it would do the work very good, but im very unsure bout the design and style...and I dont think I have seen any, but will wil be on the lookout just to try it on.
I might be wrong but the boonie almost looks like what we call fisherman hat? Im not a fan of this one.
Panama is great, and I have also been wearing this but I feel its almost too classy for me (lol) maybe its just because Im not used to it but also most of my clothes used in the south is pretty cheap so I never feel very classy, and also I feel its hard to look sharp in shorts. But the biggest problem is that it can be damaged in the packing because I cannot wear it on my head while going there this just wont work so it has to go in the bag and the last one actually got too badly damaged so I binged it.
Alot good suggestions here and a very wide variaty of styles. I think I gotta have to go and try them out and keep a little more open mind here.

I see you don't like ball caps, but I'm just going to try and make you change your mind anyway! As a lifelong ball cap wearer, it's worth mentioning that they're not all created equal. There are so many variables: high crown/low crown, structured/unstructured, fitted/adjustable; then there's the options of how to wear them: high on the head/pulled low over the eyes, straight/tilted, forwards/backwards; then also do you want a brand logo, funny saying, battleship you served on, sports team, or no logo? Maybe take some of those variables into consideration and revisit ballcaps with an open mind. Following are links to the current trio of hats I'm wearing, notice specifically the different bill lengths on all three. The light colored/high crown/short billed hat from "The Lodge" is my go-to for beach weather. lodgegoods.com/products/blue-white-dots-ballcapwww.okayamadenim.com/products/japan-blue-denim-classic-capwww.3sixteen.com/products/baseball-cap-olive-tent

I also think people that are new to hats, can be a little self conscious wearing them out. Find one that fits well, and a style you like, and wear it like you own it. I have several hats, ranging from wool baseball caps, vented hiking caps, panamas, shantung cowboy, beaver felt fedoras, and a really old Stetson beater, and a few more. Hats can become like denim, in that one pair really doesn't get the job done, lol

LOL my GF also pushed for the baseball-cap option haha so this is what i got in the end. I had to try like 15 to find the right form for me. I found one that looks like the PBJ double indigo!!! the color is really good. The only ngative thing is its a huge "R" in the front so felt a little childish but it looks aight. Im gonna complement it with a strawhat and thats it.
