IHSH-07 Hickory Stripe Western Shirt I had this one too but sold it maybe 6 months in because it wasnt getting any love due to my IHSH-33 being worn every day. The fit on the IH westerns is pretty spot on and this fabric is a beauty...Congrats on ur new addiction. I LOL at you guys because only a month ago everyone said they would never buy from IH BC it was so expensive. Of course once u buy one thing from them you understand why its worth a few bucks more so you buy more and more LOL

brentkuz, yeah being a thermal I wanted it more form fitting to layer on top with a heavy flannel. Plus if you read up on them in the forum they will stretch out quite a bit, up to 2" in the chest. I might order an XL in grey or black to wear on its own as a shirt. Im still trying to upload my pics..lol..file is to big to post in the thread and imgur is being difficult. Unfortunately, for me (fortunate for my wallet), I cannot get one in my size. I even checked the IH site. The XL would work for my 20+" shoulder, barely. But, the lack of arm length nullifies any consideration.

But, at the Rakuten price, it's worth every penny. FYI: I'm sending my 666-XHS off to Railcar for leg tapering... Unless Lawless can do it for me lol

Dirty_Denim, I was just about to say the same thing @untucked just said. I still think they are insanely overpriced at the IH UK and SelfEdge prices, and if it wasn't for finding Rakuten I wouldn't have picked up the thermal. I did pick up the hickory heavy flannel at the SelfEdge price and my plan was to just make that a one off purchase. As much as I do love the IH line, I still think they are overpriced at non Rakuten prices

I have never seen this type of mark up on fashion items.

I'm still very tempted to get the self edge 107 even at $345.
@untucked would you go large if you could do it again?

Unnamed, not sure about UK but I do all my research online and 90% of my clothing purchases are online. It doesn't make too much difference for me on buying from US vs. Japan retailers as long as I know my size. Btw, the 17,000 yen "retail price" of my IH shirt is already the "mark up" price for the Japanese retailers and the Japanese market pretty decides that is the fair price of the shirt. It doesn't make sense to pay another 80% mark up from a retailer here.

Iron heart UK and self edge of course there is a mark up. Giles really is a great guy to buy from and provides a solid service. I don't know what taxes and tariffs are involves for IH UK and what he really clears for a profit. But with the yen being weak and Rakuten being awesome it just makes sense to buy from japan.

If it wasn't for the IHUK size charts wouldn't exist that make any sense to westerners. UK takes care of all the important information for the west… It’s true that’s it’s easy to buy from Japan v. US or UK and save a boat load of money, but if UK didn’t take the initiative and contact Japan we wouldn’t even know of IH. The prices are high, but we have many reasons to be thankful for what they do. (You can tell I’m getting ready for thanksgiving can’t you….) Question: what is this little guy doing? ----------> <---------- I feel you bro, but that's a HUGE mark-up for such a simple service... And, I don't see it being so dissimilar from scalping tickets for a concert or sports game.

I don't know what taxes and tariffs are involves for IH UK and what he really clears for a profit. But with the yen being weak and Rakuten being awesome it just makes sense to buy from japan. For any items from outside the EU (which ends up being just about anything actually worth buying), it's an automatic 20% VAT on any item over £15 value (which, again, ends up being just about anything actually worth buying). If the value of the item is >£145, you enter a whole new world of additional Customs Duties - much of which is so complex and obfuscated that the Customs people basically make it up and just issue you a total which, of course, you have virtually no alternative but to pay. It makes importing items like decent quality boots and raw denim way more expensive. It's not uncommon for the end price to hit anywhere from 50% to 100% higher once shipping has been included. But, then, that's the whole point. The government imposes these taxes to protect their revenue streams - they have no interest in making life better for the people who actually pay the taxes. Anyone who believes the official line that it's done to 'protect our businesses' needs to have a word with themselves. As an example, the current list price for Wolverine 1000 Mile boots from official UK stockists equates to exactly $500.69 Wolverine's own site lists them for $360 in the US.

Like, TOTALLY blows..... Still doesn't justify IH UK's pricing though (If any of my assumptions are even close to truth): As a retailer, I would think he is getting them at an extreme discount... Maybe paying 50% Japanese retail price per item. If that statement is true, and he had to pay 100% customs tax, he would break even selling at Japanese price since he wouldn't be responsible for export fees. Hell, thinking about it, i could buy for Japanese price and under-cut him and SelfEdge on Ebay.

I figured taxes and fees were really the main reason of the price jump. I really didn't think Giles was making that much. Either way Giles is a great guy to do business with and he is insanely helpful.
