Yeah, have a pair en route...you have yours yet? Thoughts? Where did you get them? Good question. As far as I can tell, they weren't even sold in the UK - certainly haven't seen them pop up at the usual places yet. Talking of Adidas... this was a bit naughty from an official Twitter account!

Picked up the New Balance M997DGM in the latest End Clothing sale. Some nice Horween leather overlays. Might go with the blue laces rather than maroon:

anyone else grab the horween smiths? Yeah, have a pair en route...you have yours yet? Thoughts? they came in last week - wore them for the first time yesterday. they're ok. from a build/design view, i'm not a fan of the heel stitch and the tongue is absolutely out of control. i could not get it to stay under my cuff. there was some weird instep issues on my left foot too that grew unpleasant as the day wore on. haven't had a pair of stan smiths in a while so i can't remember if these issues were common to the model or specific to the horween. i do like the way they look though so if i can come up with a solution for the tongue, i'll be wearing them regularly.

Dunno if they're your first Stan Smith, but I found them surprisingly uncomfortable initially. After a handful of wears (not sure why any sneaker would need any break-in whatsoever) it became much more relaxed and comfy, but the first 1-4 wears were what I'd call unpleasant. Mine are Raf Stan Smiths, but I imagine a Stan is a Stan in terms of comfort, as the sole is the same across the board.

Mine are Raf Stan Smiths, but I imagine a Stan is a Stan in terms of comfort, as the sole is the same across the board. I got mine yesterday and have been wearing them today. I have always worn a 14 in most Adidas (Campus, etc), but these are 13, and the fit is pretty much perfect. I have them laced to the top and through the tongue loop with the latigo laces (not sure how I feel about the latigo laces yet, but going with them for now), and I'm not having any tongue issues at this point. The instep is molding pretty nicely and is already picking up some indigo. The natural color isn't something I'd normally wear and I'm hoping they darken up pretty quickly, or I may have to hit them with a light coat of Obenauf's or something like that in a couple months (I will never not think of wearing the feet of my enemies when I put these on, btw--thanks devastitis). I wasn't sure about the heel stitching, either, but I actually kind of like the welt it makes. Once they're broken in, I'm pretty sure they are going to get a ton of wear.

hey, nerds, I need some assistance. I'm trying to decide on either a pair of Chuck Taylor 1970's Hi tops or PF Flyers, unfortunately, it's been years since i've worn Chucks and i've never owned PF Flyers before, so i'm in the dark when it comes to sizing. I'm leaning towards the Chuck Taylor 1970's but i'd like to find a local store where I can try them on.
Are the Chuck Taylor 1970's widely available everywhere or only through select retailers? I have a sneaking suspicion that places like JcPenney's, Kohls and the like don't carry this particular model. I've read that they also fit a half size big.
What about PF Flyers? I know they have their US made line which is more expensive, but I kinda like them because they're not something I see everyday.
You guys have any input on sizing and availability?

I wear 70's a half size under my Brannock or AE size. 70's and Wolverines are the same size for me.
Now that the US PFF are available in more colors, I'll probably try a pair, but don't know about sizing, sorry.

Got the CT All Star IIs and I'm not sure how I feel about them. They are more comfy than the CT All Stars because of the new insole and they added elastic to keep the tongue in place which is also a plus. I think the main negative is the loss of the accent stripe and the tonal grommets. Maybe they'll grow on me.

The CT70 is lightyears ahead of the standard CTAS in comfort & construction (style as well, though that's very subjective), so I'm sticking with 70's myself. Oddly, I quite adore the few CT70's that are missing the contrast stripe - but since only the CDG 70's are stripe-less, and are branded with that damn heart graphic screened on them, I won't bite. I've seen people attempt to DIY remove the graphic with absolutely no success… what a waste of money. Even spoke to my friends at Converse HQ and they confirmed there's no way I'm getting that graphic off without destroying the actual canvas. OTOH the only non-CDG issue 70 that has no stripe is the monochrome white CT70 Ox, which is long sold out at all retailers AFAIK.

You guys have any input on sizing and availability? You can find CT70's in store at Nordstrom but YMMV at any other mall-level sneaker store. Converse outlet stores are also known to sell them, but not necessarily full size runs or even in the color you may be after. Better off ordering from some place like Zappos where shipping & returns are free. Size down by 0.5 with 70's, just as it says on the Converse site/store. I'm an 11.5 on a brannock, an 11.5 in Jack Purcell Signature, and 11 in CT70. If, by chance, you happen to be a TTS 14, you can try a 13 but they're hit or miss.

I have been liking the leather PF Flyers and the leather Varvatos Con's. Just got this pair in "Grape" for fun. I tend to like sneaks that I can wear with jackets (browns, etc.) and then some a little more "out there". (Click to enlarge)

What I find kind of amazing is the quality shift from a pair of shoe-store Cons to the Varvatos. I have a pair of black pebbled leather high-tops that are pretty sweet. Got them on sale through Gilt ages ago, and never wear them (I'm weird about Converse in general, I don't much care for the toe-cap). That insole is super-comfortable, though, and I love the transparent outsole.

I can't wear "normal" Con's. They kill my feet. The Varvatos are much nicer and fit better...plus I dig the looks more.

I'm 100x more likely to wear a pair the CDG Cons with half of their heart graphic on em than to use a patch (mismatched or not) to overcome the graphic, but do as you please with $125 sneakers I suppose.

You may like the Nike SB Stefan Janoski Max then, comfy lounging (non-skating?) issue of the Janoski line.
