I still had credit to burn at Gustin. Anyone have a review on the CXL belt? Looks like a good match for the alden Indy boots but it's one heck of a price tag. Any reviews for it? worth the money.

I don't own the Gustin CXL belt so can't comment on quality. I'm sure some here like it but for some reason I don't like the way the stitching looks in the pics. I own a brown CXL belt from Rancourt (to match my brown CXL Indys) and think it's far superior, although a little more expensive. I've posted a pic of Rancourt's Color 8 belt above.

Is that full clx or is it backed with other leather like Gustin?

Is that full clx or is it backed with other leather like Gustin? it has a veg tanned lining - the outer is CXL. the only 1.5" belt of theirs that doesn't have the lining is the black CXL. I noticed they raised their price by $5 to $110. I paid $105 for mine last year. still a great belt and worth the extra money imho

I have the CXL8 belt from Gustin. Found it too thin and weak. Looks nice, though.

Ah thin and weak is pointless. It may have a holster on it once in a while.

Welp guess it's still then heavyweight belt for me. I have noticed even with the thickness of the belt it has gotten very very soft where I have my holster. Completely different from the other side.

You may want to check out this place: onestarleathergoods.com/belts/ Their prices seem better than Gustins and I've heard good things on their quality.

I like some of his stuff but the fact that his belts have no lining make it a deal breaker for me. CXL is such a thin, pliable leather that it makes no sense to not have a lining on a CXL belt. I'm also not a fan of belts with unfinished edges. it just looks sloppy to my eyes. I'll gladly pay the extra $20 and get a Rancourt CXL belt made the right way

you can tell from looking at the pics of his belts. Plus, I think he states they're cut from a single strip of leather, although the Horween Dublin appears to have burnished edges. If you look at the Rancourt belt I posted above you can see that it's lined (because it's two pieces stitched together - veg tanned liner, CXL outer) and it has burnished edges. I think the veg tanned belts might work from a single strip of leather but there's no way I would buy a CXL belt that was cut from a single strip. Heck, even my CXL money clip wallet from Mitchell leather is made with two strips of CXL glued/stitched together to make it more durable. same goes for watch straps.
