I miss my Winchester I used to have a Winchester 9422 XTR from 1983 in mint condition. I was going to give it to my son for his 10th birthday but not anymore.

My uncle gave me a Winchester Model 1894 30-30 from the 1960's. A real cowboy gun. It's in wonderful shape too. Love that gun.

Lever actions are about as fun as it gets. I have a Savage 99, Win 94 and Marlin 39. Highly recommended for good times and feeling like w cowboy.

Glock 19 or 26 with an extension on the mag if you have bigger hands. Springfield xdm 3.8 45acp Kel tec is junk I have a p3at and it's a pocket gun that's it.
If you are gonna carry it on you it's different than a range or home defense only gun.
I daily carry my xdm but summer I like the glock more.

The G19 is very concealable. Until I got my VP9, it was my go-to choice for a carry piece, but I think a HK is out of OP's price range. I don't think you'd go wrong with a used Gen3 G19.

I can't do sig. I trust my life to my 226 but man I hate the damn DAK trigger. I actually like the DAK trigger on my P226 (40 S&W). I prefer it to the triggers on the 3 Glocks I own. Of course none of the 4 10mm variants discussed in that article have a DAK trigger. BTW, what load are you using in the P226 you carry on the job?

Today's work with the VP9. 50 rnds at 15-ish feet. Man it was cold. And yes, I was wearing my Gustin jeans and shirt. Yes, I shot the target in the junk. Cartman was not pleased.

I'm thinking i'd like to get back into guns, specifically for plinking or even hunting down the road. I was looking at the Henry Rifle site and liked some of their offerings but can't attest to their quality. I'd prefer another Winchester 9422 which is the .22 I had to part with a few yrs back but those are hard to come by at a good price.
Henry has what's called a Silver Boy .22 that looks good and has a nickel played receiver and runs $600 but they also have their budget .22 which is about $350. I'd like to get a 30-30 down the road too. Thoughts?

I waterfowl hunt a lot (it's one of my main hobbies). Switched to an over under (Browning Cynergy) last season and will likely never hunt with anything else. I shoot O/U's much better and just overall enjoy them more than any other pump or semi auto I've ever used in the past. Much more reliable as well. I've never shot a Henry, but they certainly have a nice look to them. Their highly regarded at least in my area. What were you thinking of hunting?

I'd like to hunt deer, but that's later down the road. I want a .22 for plinking and all around target practice before moving onto a 30-30. I'd hate to be a terrible shot and wound a deer.
I've shot an O/U before and it was fun. It shot differently than any pump i've handled. It was for clay shooting so was probably a lighter gauge...it didn't kick that much. I liked the break action too

I liked the break action too O/U's seem to have a better point of impact for me. They tend to hit where I point them and swing much better. I think it's a mix of more weight, better fit and faster target pick up. They are much louder simply because your ear does not have a receiver keeping it further back from the firing pin and shell going off I've noticed. Nothing cooler than breaking open that action and the shells ejecting while in the swamp 👍 (easier to pick up too, as they all tend to stay in a general pile and area). That's a great point and one I respect in regards to not wanting to wound a deer. I've done it once in the past 15 years and it's a bad feeling. I'm sure you'll end up getting both at some point, but you're already willing to practice and that's what matters. I like lever action rifles, their reliable and I've never had a FTF or FTE. But, some do not like the manual thumb safety that can require actually pulling the trigger and easing it into safe. Normally not recommended for younger kids (I learned on it though and did fine). Not sure how Henry designs their rifles though in regards to that.

I used to own a Browning .270 win and Winchester xtr 9422. I didn't get to shoot either because my ex-wife hated guns (even though I had a safe) and my separation/divorce meant that I couldn't keep them. I was pretty bummed about it. I even sold my Leupold VX3 scope on fleabay. The 9422 was meant for target practice and the .270 win as my primary hunting rifle when the time came. Prior to all this I took a firearm safety course via the DNR and that still wasn't good enough for the ex. But I took the course to learn about safety first and foremost. I've read too many stories of gun owners being reckless and stupid with guns and decided that wasn't going to be me.
Either way, the bug has bitten me again and i'd like to start over. That is, if my clothing hobby doesn't drain my finances.

I'm not understanding what a divorce/separation has anything to do with the right to keep and bear arms, assuming you are legally able to do so.

I could've held onto it but it did me no good collecting dust in my closet.

I’d recommend going to a local gun range that rents them out and try as many as you can. That being said I EDC a S&W Shield 9mm and love how easy it is to IWB carry and how accurately it shoots for its size. Sig just came out with the P365 and that looks interesting as well.
