After getting just about the last of my orders, I ended up selling one (Brown Organics a bit too streaky for me), considering selling one (Zimbs, just lost interest after taking 3+ months and the brown patch doesn't help), and I'm back in love with Gustin (Raw Umbers). After hanging up the Raw Umbers, I looked at my collection, and thought, all I'm missing is a dark indigo denim, and I have the Cone BluexBlacks on the way. So after I receive those, I think I will have a solid completed collection of Gustin denims, and will not need anything else, just replace the Summer Blues with a non-ruined Summer Blues.

Obviously I'm well past the number of blues that most reasonable people would consider sufficient. And I still have the Loomies allegedly on the way sometime fairly soon. So I'd like to get those Okies moved on to a good home, sell one or two more pairs of the indigo stuff, and then use that money to help fill out the non-indigo side of the ledger. Japan Taupes and Downtown Browns are on the wishlist, along with another pair of greys (not as fancy as the Silks).
I'd jump on a cool heavyweight indigo in the 18-20oz range in a heartbeat, though. Still kicking myself for not backing the 18-oz Zims when I had the chance.

Sizing and hem stitching issues aside, I consider all of them good quality jeans and worthwhile in value terms. I don't tend to wear the indigo versions very much as my collection is comprised mainly of indigo and there are numerous pairs I'd opt to wear before reaching for the Gustins. That said, I wear the grey and black versions quite a lot of the time - both look great on and have stretched to fit nicely. Only ever worn the browns once, so far. I always like the idea of wearing them and have put together some good pairings, but when I then put them on and check myself in the mirror I always think they just don't quite work on me for some reason. It's a shame, because they are the pair from my Gustin collection that I'd score highest for fabric, construction and sizing.
None of them have had a soak or a wash as yet. Partly because I'm a little worried about the re-stretching process but mainly because I haven't worn any of them enough to warrant it.

I don't like the Blue Silk 'cos they're shiny & flimsy (not my thang!) however I quite like the Raw Umbers (also light weight) & I get the most poz comments about the Raw Umbers, too. I want G to know I haven't forgotten...& will NEVER forget: I (& MANY others) still want CxC 18-23oz!!!  |

ickes, yeah, I just meant to be a little silly re the CxC's but, after all this time guess the chances are not too good, lol. Still see other members' occasional references too but, I gotta face it, CxC is probably kickin' back with old Rusty Red thinkin' 'bout what mighta been!

Wish I had the Downtown Browns but had just gotten the Raw Umber and it seemed a little redundant. Minus the slight green tint and a little whiskering broken in Okayama's looked and felt pretty similar to the Zims.

But the Raw Umbers are a whole nother animal. |

beerweasel, jray, you're welcome! Also, I've owned the Charcoal Organic Hemps and the Brown Organic Hemps, and had the Heavyweights for a few days (long story). For anyone on the fence with the two organic hemps I have to say that in person the jeans are honestly quite hideous. No offense to anyone, just my opinion, but they are two pairs that when I saw the swatches I thought they looked awesome but when I opened the packages it was complete disappointment. I returned them. The Heavyweights on the other hand are the one pair that got away from me. I would like to have those again.

Half of my collection of G stuff is just that....a "collection". I tend to wear 2 pairs of denim in rotation and go for fades. Once a pair get to the point I like them to be at fade wise, I rotate them out for occasional wear. Not really wearing G much currently. I just liked a lot of the interesting fabrics at the price point. I'll wear everything at some point but not in a rush. |
