Either way, I’ve sworn myself off of light colored waxed canvas because they get dirty easily. I think I have 3 in my closet that don’t get worn — Gustin, Filson and TS. |

Really interesting article in this week's New Yorker about the company Rent the Runway. I was vaguely aware of this, but it is a company where you pay a monthly fee to rent clothing (sort of like how Netflix used to be with DVDs). I think its just for women. Here's a nugget from the article: the average American buys 67 (!) clothing items a year. The idea of Rent the Runway (I guess) is that you wouldn't buy all that stuff, which is good I suppose.
My wife did Stitch Fix for awhile. Its a similar subscription model, but you buy the clothes rather than rent.
There is definitely more of a marketplace for this kind of thing for women than men, although I have noticed a few companies who do this with menswear (can't think of any company names off the top of my head though). I have looked over their offerings and the clothes aren't really what would fly with this crowd.
My question: do you think some kind of subscription product (either rent or buy) for MiUSA stuff (also including heritage type products from EU/Japan/Canada) could work with the forum members? My guess is no, since we're all a bunch of picky bastards and searching out this stuff is half (or more) of the fun.

I think you summed it up well for myself, and probably most here, in that I am picky with what I wear. The last thing I would want is someone else sending me stuff to see if it meets the cut. For instance, my wife called me the other day while she was out doing some errands, and asked if I would be interested in a flannel shirt she saw. I politely said thanks for thinking of me, but to pass on it, lol. I don't let my wife pick out me clothes. I believe it was the next day I ordered a UHF CPO that Selfedge has for about 45% off of IHUK prices. Roughly about the same price I was picking them up from RB Japan back in the day.

I'm guessing there's an option to buy if your rental works out? A subscription model, on the other hand, seems like a good idea. It could be set up so that paid subscriptions get first peek and dibs at new product as well as a discount. The downside is that if you're a new startup it reeks of a kickstarter project gone bad, especially if the company doesn't know what they're doing and are in it for a cash grab. |

I've rented clothes since high school...talking tuxedos of course  Seen the wrist watch industry go down the rental route and all the cell phone companies are pushing lease contracts. I'm going to set up a clothing swap marketplace that connects dudes in the Southern hemisphere with us Northerners: They get our Summer clothes while we get their Winter, Haha |

Just picked up a zipper hoodie from Northwestern Knitting Company (nwkc.us). They are a Twin Cities based brand. I think the guy who started it also started Wilson and Willy. Anyway, the fabric is super nice and the hoodie has a bunch of interesting details. They are pricy, but cheaper than IH! They have a cool story about the brand too on the website. I bought the hoodie at the Wilson and Willy store in Minneapolis. Don’t know if anyone on the forum owns anything from the brand, but their stuff looks really good. I would have bought something but I’m pretty good on the clothes for now.

I don’t own any reigning champ so I can’t compare. I bought an XL. I’m an XL in most other brands, like TS. In IH I wear XXL. It’s a sort of slim fit. Not tight or anything but definitely not baggy. |

Thanks for the heads up on that brand, @nate009 I was uninterested until I read it was merino and double layered at that. Please take some pics if you get a hot minute (yeah, I still remember your boss ass contribution to the waywt thread, haha). Anyone here have any experience with Andersen-Andersen? Their 5 gage full cardigan knit wool is out of this world and the fit and design is superbly dialed in. My real question is what are other companies pumping out the thickest, super chunky, merino sweaters that fit well? The rolled down turtleneck is their medium weight 7 gage half cardigan stitch, while the center zip (high collar) is the beefcake (same with their beanies--highly recommended). They do an indigo dyed versions (light blue and dark) that has awesome depth of color saturation, but ups the prices very steeply. I've got no ponies in this race, just stoked on discovering heirloom quality shit, haha   |
