Thanks for the photos matt. I was thinking I may have found my next jacket until that star popped up. Still might not be a deal breaker...but it is close. I'm not big on the star either but the jacket itself looks good. I think with any company there are going to be those little branding details that you'll either like or dislike. For example, I posted a thread about Leon Denim who are from the Philippines. The thing that stood out for me aside from the quality of their denim was the claw stitch that they use on the back pocket of their jeans. It reminds me of the sideways W stitch that IH uses on their jeans. Leon's claw stitch is unique to me and subtle, so it's not something that would keep me from buying their stuff. Likewise, the star on Bravestar's stuff may actually appeal to some and not make a difference to others.

Has anyone ever phoned them?
I sent them an email over a week ago and have not heard back.

I never had problems, Mik was fast in responding. Just give it some more days.

Has anyone ever phoned them? I sent them an email over a week ago and have not heard back. When I placed my order for this jacket, I followed up with a question to confirm that 13.5 oz brown weft was available in the Ironside jacket - I did hear back from Mik but it was a couple of days. He wrote back, confirmed the order and I received my shipping notice about a day or so later. Overall, it was really quick. I know that many of us are hypersensitive to the time between order confirmation and shipping notice - probably both due to experiences with other brands (TS/Gustin stock store - good, LD - incredibly bad). Unfortunately, I think we all tend to assume the latter could happen when it's a small company and we don't get a "reasonable" response. Where I'll give Mik credit, he's got a good web set-up. You know what's available and you can sign up for notifications on stuff that isn't. Granted, I'd love to see "new drops" more, but I assume that's what he's working on now while the current inventory sells.

I'll try again next week.
My concern is shrinkage in the arms. They are exactly on spec and yet again I find myself asking a manufacturer for a custom.

Brave Star is running a very limited run of 18.5 oz Cone (limited to 15 pairs) for $120. Not a bad value for the weight. More details here.

I just got the J21's, remembered I have a 21oz blue selvedge coming from the soso kickstarter, and spent my last jeans-money on the Limited edition 20oz from Ciano. On top of that, Big Slubbers remains neglected in my closet along with a couple other mid-weight indigo. I'd like to give Brave Star a shot, but holy hell, at this rate I won't be able to even get the indigo bleed out of the jeans I have, let alone wear them out.

I liked the Ciano 20s that he offered up, but passed because I absolutely have no need for jeans at the moment. This Brave Star offering looks pretty cool also, but figured its not that great of a deal if they sit in the closet.

Matt, when you get the chance, would you mind posting a fit pic of the ironside jacket? I am considering this jacket but they were already out of stock in my size for the 16.5oz denim. The jacket seems pretty good value. I don't mind the embroidered star either.

Here's a few fit pics of the Brave Star Ironside jacket. For perspective, I'm 5'9 1/2" and 165 lbs and the jacket is a medium. It has a slim profile for not being a slim fit. 1 soak, sleeves are a little long but I'm ok with this as I tend to cuff them. Jacket is pretty true to sizing and for reference I'm wearing a 38 TS Mechanics shirt under it. For reference, those are not the American Antiques underneath, instead the Soso broken twill denim...so it's an incomplete brown weft tux.

Thanks for the pictures. Looks great, nice fit. As you said, a bit long in the arms but otherwise spot-on in all other measurements.

Any thoughts on the various weights for the jackets?
They are out of every weight in my size except the 13.5 and I do like the brown weft on that one but am wondering if I should wait till the heavier weights come back in stock.
Also, any general thoughts on how much this Cone denim will shrink if cold washed and hung dry.

These are sanforized fabrics so in theory not much shrinkage should be expected.

Also, any general thoughts on how much this Cone denim will shrink if cold washed and hung dry. I probably saw at most about 1/4" of shrink with a cold wash and hang dry, after I did an initial tumble dry low as well to get some of the saturation off my jacket. I agree that the 13.5 might be a little lighter, but it's on point here in AZ for a 2-3 season jacket and layers well. They're doing a pre-order on their True Straight, tells me that they'll be getting some of those weights in again soon. Might be work a call/email to Mik to see if he will set aside some yardage in the 16.5 oz to make you a jacket. Can't hurt to ask!

I'm assuming it's like the G model and once he gets enough interest he starts producing. Has anyone drawn Mik's attention to this thread?

I have been itching to buy these since I received the email on Sunday. Any thoughts on why I should? I do like the look of these much better than G's and I prefer Chino cloth over canvas.......

I have no experience with Brave Star, but here are several reasons why you have my permission to buy them: 1) Selvedge twill...you don't see that too often. 2) Twill made in USA. 3) Welted back pockets with flaps are bad ass. 4) Only $89!!
Do it.
