Just got back a pair of cut off shorts from the tailor. They were a ~15 year old pair of BR chinos that were pretty heavy twill. I liked the pants pretty well, but for various reasons wasn't wearing them much. Tailor hemmed them for $10 and they look great. My next attempt at cut offs is a pair of Ciano canvas chinos that were too tight around the knees and lower thigh. I got the pants about a year ago when the 901 style had different (ie, tighter) cut. I have a replacement pair of canvas chinos with the new 901 dimensions on order.
This is fairly obvious, but the best thing about cut offs is you can determine the inseam. I am not a fan of the 8-9" inseam that is available in most MiUSA shorts.
While I'm on the subject, why isn't inseam reported for all shorts? Some of the time its there, but a lot of the time, you're left guessing based on the model pix. I protest.
