Ihm-14 Ihsh-101 MC Shockoe x American Trench Cords Viberg x Division Road Kudu Chris Ward Trident Vintage Went for a hike down to the river this morning after breakfast, and wore the N1 with an IH thermal henley, and was nice and toasty. Little bit of snow in the Foothills today, and a bit of wind chill factor. Love the N1s

Very toasty and dresses up or down so seamlessly. I could see a khaki colored Mister Freedom N-1 or some waxed version on my back down the road

I could see a khaki colored Mister Freedom N-1 or some waxed version on my back down the road When I bought mine, Pike offered a waxed version, but I thought it might be less breathable. I've worn mine is some pretty wet weather for and hour or so, and found that the Whipcord is fairly water repellent, and very wind resistive.

That's exactly what others have wrote. IH's has a 'wind proof layer' sandwhiched between the wool/alpaca lining and the whipword (used to make an audible scrunch when wrinkled untill fully broken in, but now is silent) Dehen1920 makes a waxed version for $1250ish that doesnt come of as very stylish?!! http://instagram.com/p/BQQmxqmjacc

Looking that over on their website, it looks to be a warm jacket for sure, but kind of limited to very cold weather. I have a sheepskin trooper hat which has the fur like this on the inside, but the outside is the tanned hide vs duck material. Its freaking great in the wind and cold, but I can't wear it unless its below freezing, or it roasts your bean.

Looking the jackets over, I'm not sure why they don't jive with me, but they just come across as a bit utilitarian--is all I can come up with (part of me wants to like them--cause they check so many boxes...)

Yea, I think utilitarian fits the bill. I just don't think it would get much wear in our neck of the woods, as I have a feeling it would be too warm unless you had the Fraser River cold blast we get on occasion.

Sitting through a long Seahawk's game in subfreezing temps would justify it for me, but the walk back to the truck would drench me in sweat I tend to run cold and haven't met a jacket too warm yet

It also has something to do with the fact I dislike hats, and that's a huge source of heat loss. So unless its really necessitated by prolonged exposer, I try to keep my head bare. I'll even sport face wraps/balaclava type gigs to cover the ears and neck but alowing my head to breath!

You have a reason to justify now, and probably need a new Seahawk's jacket. I've always though an Aero, or Eastman Irvin jacket would be so cool to own, but in reality I'd have to move a 1000 miles north to give it some wear, lol

I'm in Seattle right now visiting the SO. I don't understand why no one uses an umbrella. Does no one value their clothing? It's either beanie or hood here.

Typically just a brisk walk from the car to the door, so no need for even a hood--unless its really dumping. But if walking, then good shoes and good hooded jacket is more important to me than an umbrella...

Yep, rain jacket and good shoes with either water repellant pants or just wool and you're better off than with an umbrella.

Maybe its just the part of country your in. When I was a kid , my mom would take me downtown Seattle, and everyone had one then, but not so much these days. Keep in mind that Seattle is the birthplace of grunge, so maybe that has something to do with it, IDK?

I just wear a North Face raincoat for quick walks to the car or apt. I suppose an umbrella would make sense if you're commuting by bus or train and actually have to wait outside
