Surprised you guys haven't posted all your Leathers. I've only got one. Bought it in Florence Italy most 20 years ago (still fits great!). I'm not much of a leather jacket guy, but I'm interested in what you have, how you use them and what you like about them (function, leather Quality, design, etc...)

Your jacket looks great. Does it say what kind of leather? Looks like a peacoat design. I see Vera Pelle mean real leather in italian, so not really a brand name. You need to wear it more as it looks new. I have worn leather jackets since a teen. One of my older jackets, had about 25 years, had to have a new lining put in as it wore out. I wear my leather jackets as much as I can. When it gets really cold I just add some layers underneath. Leather isn't the best insulator but it is windproof, tough and with layers quite warm. The best feature they look cool. Posted a couple of mine under the brand name. gustinfriends.proboards.com/thread/115/lost-worldsgustinfriends.proboards.com/thread/116/alexander-leathers

Yeah, i don't put much wear in it. It has held up good for being 20 years old. It doesn't make a good work jacket for me so it's more of a out on the town coat. I don't know anything about the leather. That's why I'm interested in how you guys use them.

@mowgli, the sheen looks great - one of the newer models I've been eyeing. Is that the new Aero fit? That's one of the best fitting I've seen, and it looks narrower in the torso than most Aero designs - which is good. Love it in the brown too as opposed to black. Which lining did you get?

Old26 Thank you.. There are more pictures of this particular jacket that Carrie from Thurston Bros posted in the thread on the TFL. Sheene is just the their cafe racer model with the Aero Highwayman jacket colar. I actually opted for an even smaller colar from the Aero August model. The standard cafe racer is even trimmer in the waist than my jacket. I actually had Aero add another inch in the waist of this jacket. Also I did not want the shoulder gussets in the back. I got the olive cotton drill lining throughout.. I was aiming for a very simple jacket that was a little fitted.

@mowgli, you should post up your fit pics too. I guarantee good feedback on TFL -most of the time, it's just the jackets. Thurston do a good job with being the middlemen between US clients and Aero. Super jacket!

Looks great on you, mowgli. Much better than the baggy Highwayman, which was always a purchase I regret.
Did you add length, or is that the standard Thurston longer cut?

I have actually posted these fit pictures over there too..
This seems the standard length as I did not specify any additional length..

That looks really great. I gave Roman some picks of my vintage leather racer that is very similar and I think he is going to do a prototype of it after the holidays. So Lawless may have something very similar to this in a few months.

Lawless (LD) has their new "Elk Hide "Scout" jacket" up. www.ra-denim.com/elk-leather-scout-jacket/$899. Nice looking jacket. I'm somewhat torn though as jackets are not shirts or jeans. I've paid and will pay more than that for a leather jacket, but I'm slightly hesitant to go with an unknown for 9-large. Thoughts fellers?

I think it looks great--especially the rounded pockets that flare out a bit at the bottom.
Does this stuff age like veg tan?

Soft as f*ck and very porous. It's kinda hard to take care of, but I have wanted one like a mofo for years. Maybe If I can get some discount I'll give one a shot. Elk is one of the softest hides you'll ever find, but it's kinda like suede or nubuck in that it's hard to take care of - or rather, you need to sorta be careful with it.

I like the leather but the jacket itself isn't my style. Not sure if Elk runs at a premium as far as price but the price does seem high. 900 will get you most high end jackets. As others have mentioned if there is a sale then the price seems more reasonable.

If anyone is in the market - Cool looking vintage jacket for sale on Etsy: (looks a lot like mine, actually; mine has the same nondescript "This Genuine Leather Garment Has Been Designed and Tailored" tag without any other indicator of maker, is in a lighter whiskey-color leather and has side slash zip pockets instead.)

Haha. Whoops.
And consequently, if any of you leather aficionados knows who made this jacket (and mine with this same tag), I'd love to know.

I'm in the market for a leather jacket. I know that I will be a 1 leather jacket guy so it makes the decision tough. I've checked out vanson and aero and I like a lot of them. I really like the himel bros a-1/2 but not in my range. Anyone have advice/experience on zip vs buttons?

I really like the himel bros a-1/2 but not in my range. Anyone have advice/experience on zip vs buttons? If you're riding motorcycle I don't think you want buttons but otherwise it's just a function and aesthetic thing. If you are in cold windy weather yes I think a zipper would keep the cold out a little more, other than that it's whatever you think looks the best. Car and long jackets etc usually have buttons. Once again keep an eye on eBay for used leather jackets. Sometimes people are selling a like new jacket that just didn't fit. A good used jacket is something not to be afraid of either. Ask if they have any smells etc but usually someone dealing with high end leather jackets will take decent care of them. Might save you some breaking in time also. You can save some dough buying this way.

Well, it's cool and vintage and in great shape. not a bad price either. There's a guy on TFL that would likely know what it is, if I get the time I'll post it over there and see if he bites. But hey, if you like it and it's the right size, it's not a bank-breaker, and it looks pretty sweet... (but I'd not use an older jacket like that for moto riding protection FWIW).

Thanks for the help. I'm torn because I don't have a bike but I'm planning on getting one. (Don't tell my wife!) Aesthetically I like buttons more but I don't dislike zippers. I will keep and eye out on eBay for the used models.
