Dammit you guys are making me self conscious about my cuffed taped seams now! I kid (kinda)
Maybe I'll go untaped for the 20oz...

Yeah, now that you bring it up, I don't think a taped seam is for me. I have it on my chinos and I like it, but for some reason I don't think it works as well for denim. What's the best way to communicate that with Ciano? Just email him?

What's the best way to communicate that with Ciano? Just email him? I would absolutely not recommend a flat felled seam on heavier denim. They tend to be thicker, run a higher risk of breaking stitches. I prefer just regular flat felled, but taped isn't a big deal. It's the inside edge we're talking about anyway.

Fair point, bentin. I suppose we could dye the exposed tape to try to disguise it. In fact, I'll do that tonight on my 23oz black as they're just knockabout jeans anyway, there to be abused.

I'm flying in the face of bentin and getting flat felled seams. Sorry man. I just prefer how they look. Just emailed Ciano about the change and he got back to me in under 5 minutes. I'm excited. At 20 oz, this is my first pair of big boy denim.

i'm pretty sure their order form allows you to choose if you want taped seams or not...so just step through that prior to emailing or calling.
i have 3 pair of ciano duck canvas, and each ended up being really snug right at the point under the waist band. the waist band itself isn't snug, but right under is where the heavy pocket bags, pull/hanger loops, and taped seam materials all get sewn in. i figure it chews up ~1/3" of space all told. it doesn't help that i've got prominent hip bones and a big butt...but if i go with another pair of ciano's i'll be opting out of taped seams if nothing more than a test.

Agreed. All of that gets very bulky.

Went flat felled as well, I always cuff and like the look of traditional denim.

Order placed. Went with grey thread. I chose flat felled for inseams because I don't like the look of the white tape. Are there options for the colour of the tape? I didn't even think of the taped seam for cuffing. My only pair of Ciano are Ducks and I don't cuff them. They have taped seams. I am going for the 16oz black SS Jeans and will be cuffing these. I could get taped as a few mentioned and get out the black marker for the exposed seam when cuffing. I found this picture on Ciano's site and the taped seam doesn't look bad. Like having 2 selvedge details showing. You will be twice as cool as others cuffers.

I'm not sure if you mis-spoke (and think you did), but that's the taped inseam (the inseam is at the top in that photo). The flat felled seam will match what Gustin does. Haha. Thanks for pointing this out. Yes I meant taped seam. Edited original post.

I don't mind the taped inseam at all. In actuality, unless one of us runs into another forum member from here, nobody would ever notice. I'm pretty sure any of my friends wouldn't even be able to tell you what a selvedge jean is, lol

That said...I've never had an inseam failure for flat felled, taped, or french seams. I'm sure I'd wear through the knees, seat, and crotch fabric before experiencing seam blow outs.

Do these come with a selvedge coin pocket standard? I'd prefer plain, don't want to be surprised.

Both of my Gustins have broken stitching on the inseam near the brentkuz region. However I have a lighter, non G pair of jeans with a flat felled inseam and tons of wear that are still fine.

If you click through the order forms for each fabric you can see all the details without actually ordering. It is a very cool system. $168USD 23oz JPN Limited Edition "SS" BLACK/BLACK PINK Selvage Denim ORDER FORM LINK cfdco1.typeform.com/to/kQoIns$105USD 20oz JPN Limited Edition "SS" Indigo Selvage ORGANIC Denim ORDER FORM LINK cfdco1.typeform.com/to/KdtYsW$95USD 16oz JPN Limited Edition "SS" BLACK/BLACK WHITE Selvage Denim ORDER FORM LINK cfdco1.typeform.com/to/Yel2w1

In for the 20's. I chose orange thread, hidden rivets, taped seams, and ponied up for the handmade copper buttons. I'm a true 34 waist and went for the 31's. I talked to them today and was told a pretty cool story about those handmade buttons. I guess they get the raw material from a guy that salvages copper nails and roves from old wood boats, pretty cool.
Edit...i was also told that Winterland lit a fire under their asses and these will be put on the fast track...he didn't say how much faster though

Wow seems like we added 5-6 today so we have to be close. I'm no salesperson but I've been trying to sell these to some of my friends who are into raw denim. But they fear 20oz.

How fast will the 20oz fade?
I'm wearing some G 16's now, is 20 that much harder to break in than 16?

TAPES SEAMS VS FLAT FELL. so here are some pictures of the tapes seams and a regular finish [ regular finish is if you picked a flat fell seam.] as for the over lock finish on the inside inseam we do on the regular finish/ flat fell seam option..we are the only company in the denim industry that does a double thread t-90 of the outer over loop on the inseam..all other companies including the Japaneses [ ie Iron Heart] companies only do a single thread...don't believe me..look at your other brand jeans.... it is double the cost of thread....why you ask?..because we have a lifetime guarantee on our jeans and we try to "double" down in areas we know will fail...so now do you understand why it take a little longer for our jeans to be made...we really make our jeans to last 100 years...[ cross my finger GOD willing!!!!] the tapes seam is in the inside so if you are to cuff them you will not notice them so much,,, and we do the tapes seams because the seam will last alot longer..we have had many local Farmers come in with their jeans and always a seam blow out so we started doing the taped seams..not one has come in with a seam blow out with the tapes seam....3 years so far...as for the flat fell seam ..we see them every couple of weeks for repair.... funny thing is the taped seam will be the only part of your jeans STILL INTACT after 50-100 years of wear..HAAAAA,,HAAAAA..i would love to get an email form one of you in 50 years tell me ' Ciano my taped seam blew out"..HAAAAA CHEERS Ciano see pics

They shouldn't be much harder to break in than the 16s, I think it depends on the weave more then the weight, my 19oz denim have a fairly loose weave and they were easy to break in. Not an expert just my 2 cents.
