Hey Y'all, very excited to finally receive these Jeans. I was hoping to solicit your collective expertise on next steps I should take with these as I have never done the STF thing before. I ordered two sizes up. I would not want to lose much from the waste on these, I probably have a half inch of play or so.Wouldn't mind the legs and butt coming in more than that. I have read the various comments on cold soak, hot soak, mix of the two, cookie sheet inserts, smurf murder, etc. and have to admit being a bit baffled as to exactly how to go about this exercise. Then there is the question of needing to wear a cold soaked pair of jeans for true shrink to fit (is that where the term blue balls comes from?) Can anyone walk this newbie through the exact steps I should take? Any good STF vids that lay it out? Appreciate any help you guys can offer.

I'm just going to rinse mine in the utility sink in my basement with cold water, then hang them up. If I had oversized them a lot, I would consider the hot soak while wearing, but I think I'll get by.

@scoooterb This is what I'd do. Give them a cool soak for 30 min. Hang dry. That way if in the future you can wash them in cool water hand dry and in theory not change anything. If after a cool soak you don't have the fit you'd like, do a warm/hot soak. If it's only the bottom half (knee, thigh down) just hang that part in the tub with the rest out. Or if it's the top waist band that needs some shrink just put that part in hot water.
I didnt get much shrink with a cool soak. The rise did come to me on the short side.

Received mine. Came in under 37 straight spec, but it won't be an issue. Pre-soak measurements.....
Waist 18.5 Thigh 12.5(2" down) Front rise 11.25 Back rise 14.75 Cuff 8.75 Inseam 36.25
Will post post-soak numbers Sunday

I will be giving these a warm(30°C) tub soak for about an hour. As whiskeyriver has stated, the weft is similar to TSG mud weft. The denim has nowhere near the character, but the weft color is close.... #dirtyfades

They arrived today, waist is right on spec for a 34 straight, and everything seems in order, though the cuff is thankfully two inches under the fit guide at 8" instead of 9" (16 vs 18). I'll be taking a closer look at them a little bit later, but I was just happy to see I won't have to drop out of the contest due to sizing issues.

Hey Ickes, so I don't need to be worried about too much shrink in the warm water? Based on comments above I was thinking of cold soaking and then warm soaking the thighs down if I need to take more out of the legs, but you recommend going right for warm as long as I am wearing them? I can't afford more than a half inch of shrink in the waist but is the fact that I am wearing them prevent that? Should I go for the dunk can I safely assume that all that indigo will wash off me or am I going look like the bottom half of a smurf? Once they have shrunk and dried am I living with where they at or will they stretch out again as I wear them? Appreciate your patience with the newbie questions trying not to f this up.

For the most part no but it all depends on how well they fit you now. Adjust the water accordingly from comfortably cool to comfortably warm. You obviously don't want to be sitting in an ice bath or scolding hot water either. Judging by what you've said so far I would do a warm soak while wearing and you answered your own question when you asked about too much waist shrinkage, that's exactly why you wear them while soaking because you will prevent the waist from shrinking beyond the size of your waist. You will not look like the bottom half of a smurf post soak, at least I never have after any of my 10+ soaks. Once they have shrunk and dried you will get a bit more stretch after wearing for a while.

Post-soak question - is anyone else seeing any specs of light-reflective material on these? I had mine sitting in some sunlight and there was/is some reflective material on fabric as it's got more texture than pre-soak.

No, mine looked a little lighter, post-soak, but not reflective.

If I were to wear mine wet outside I would not get far before they froze and I was stuck. And that would be the end of Griffy! We already have F 19 here and Winter isn't even begun.

Reading minimal shrink in the waist with cold soak I think I'll go with a warm soak for 30 or 40 minutes. Still haven't got around to it. Usually I raced to do this stuff. No hurry.
Also my moleskin chinos arrived. Need to take those out of the package.

Ordered a 36 Straight, then just now created an account here for the express purpose of maybe joining the contest. The thing was it's cool to join up until January 1, right? If so, I'm in--that is, if I can resist wearing my new jeans till January. If I break, I will gracefully withdraw from the competition. Honest.

I'm not opposed to starting once all contest members have checked in that they have their pair, I just think it's only fair to have them in the hands of the entire pool prior to starting (it'll keep feelings from being hurt as the contest wraps up).

Just soaked mine while wearing. Started at 112°F, soaked about 20 mins until I couldn't take the sweating. Final temp 106°. Presoak meaurements: Tag size 38 slim Waist 37.6 Thigh 24.5 Knee 17.6 Cuff 16 Front Rise 9.75 Rear Rise 14.5 Not full-on smurf murder, but a little bloodletting. I'll post postsoak measurements tomorrow.
I'm fine with starting whenever everyone has theirs, but waiting till 1/1/16 is no biggie, either.
