Seriously though, it's Monday the 23rd and I'm still waiting on shipping after a 4th guarantee that shipping would occur last week. Production status: 3/18: All remaining orders will ship out in the next 7 days. My elusive heavy caramel chinos... My caramel heavy chinos are awesome! Man I love them. Ordered them I'm like February too.

I don't even know what to say in emails to them anymore. I'm starting to feel like I'm a jerk for wanting the product I paid for 4 months ago.

Maybe if Gustin got paid when they deliver....Or 50/50, when a campaign closes and then when it ships? The worst part of this avoidable J17 fiasco is all of the broken shipping promises. They continue to be so sure of themselves, yet continue to let us down. How is this even possible?

Here is a copy of the latest email I sent to Ren. Don't worry, I won't post his reply. I give my consent for my email though Hi Ren/Team, Just checking in again. It has been over a week since we spoke last without a shipping notice. I realize that sending you guys another email probably does nothing to get my order shipped faster, but due to these being so overdue, I feel it necessary. I feel like I have been relatively patient, but we are 16 weeks from backing, and almost 8 weeks overdue from expected ship with 4 missed deadlines. When I spoke to Albert over a month ago, it was just another week. I expressed that I did not want to wait another 4-6 weeks. He assured me that it would just be another week. I do NOT want to cancel my order, I've waited this long after all. I just don't understand how the communication between the factory, you guys, and the buyer has been so challenged. I was tempted to back the Okayama this morning, but feel hesitant because this (the J17s) is my first denim buying experience with you guys. I hope this is not the norm. I understand that delays happen, but 8 weeks is a long time, especially when you've been told each week that it'll just be a few more days. I think I can speak for any customer when I say that I would prefer clearer communication from the start. Thanks for reading the time to read this. I know you're not personally responsible, and it must suck to have to deal with grumpy people. Hopefully better news this week! Ben

Still, I think it would just be a whole lot easier saying, "Where are my f*@king jawns !".

Ha. That would have been more fun. Ren pretty much just said 'yup, it sucks for us too. We hear about it a lot. Super lame. Hope to get them to you soon.'

I want to know what Gustin is going to do about these delays and how they are going to avoid them I'm the future.
It feels like we are buying our stuff from some factory and Gustin is just the middle man.
I hate that they just say welp sucks for us too we didn't want everything to be late from November to April.

I don't think Gustin can do anything about it. They are at the mercy of the fabric producer, how long it takes to get the fabric to Gustin, and production factories, how long it takes for the factories to produce and ship. Doesn't mean Gustin doesn't do anything, though. They do a fantastic job of finding unique fabrics, something I wish other companies could become good at, and offering them at a crazy to decently low price.

But it DOES suck for them too, and you ARE buying stuff from the factory with Gustin acting as the buyer on the fabric and middleman on the factory relationship. I don't really see these as points against them... in fact the factory-direct part is one of the biggest reasons for G's existence - and it comes with risk.
I hated having my selvedge khakis run more than a month over too, and I sent them an email about it, but it was surely a lot easier for me than for Gustin as there's no way I'm the only one who sent them that email (that day even). Honestly, there is really nothing they can do about the delays aside from communicate to us better/more honestly. Changing shops would be stupid.... except on the button down shirts cuz goddamn!

The problem is the communication. Telling me for over 6 weeks that the jeans are shipping that week is bullshit. Set realistic expectations. Get actual info from the factory. Hold them to it.
After awhile it begins to feel like lip service.

I'll say this. I was recently in the market for several pairs of chinos and although I really love Gustin's chinos I just couldn't justify spending $100+ per pair when considering the wait time. I was really tempted to pay for the recent Japan Olives and the now Military Navy Twills but I just can't justify to myself spending that much for a pair of chinos that I won't see for 16-20 weeks.
I ended up just getting several pairs of Banana Republic chinos for around $110 (on sale).

If it helps, I received J17s about 5-6 weeks ago and they are nothing special. Just regular heavy denim with nothing outstanding in fabric, colour or texture.

I can only speak to the Gustin heavy chinos but I compared my Emerson and aiden Banana republic chinos to the Gustin ones. Buttons are much better on Gustin Chambray interior is much nicer on Gustin Fabric tho different weight class Gustin has them killed. Overall construction on the Gustin chinos blows away the BR and I love my BR chinos.

Talked to Albert on Monday, and he said they were shipping from the factory to the fulfillment center today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday). And that they will be shipping to us throughout the next week. I don't know, giving them the benefit of the doubt. First time emailing them in regards to the Camel HerBoners.

Wearing my J17s at work right now. Picked them up on my lunch break. I think they sewed up small. Right out of the box they measured at about 30.75 for a size 31. I couldn't get the top button done at first, but after tugging at them I was able to get them on. Post tugging and trying them on they were about 31.75, maybe they were just stiff from being in the box. They're tight in the thighs and waist, but I think with just a little stretch they'll be a very nice slim fitting pair.
I think in the future I may size up to a 32 slim or at least go up a fit to a straight.
