Let's stir up the age-old debate: to denim tuxedo or not to denim tuxedo? Any of you guys anti denim jackets, and why? And those of you that like them, any suggestions on raw denim jackets?

Yes, as long as the colors don't completely match, and the color isn't dad jeansy, i.e. Aaron Rodgers/Matt Flynn.

Having done that as a young layabout, I wouldn't have dreamt of it now, but this site is pulling me back in. Like devastitis says, if the colours are way different, then it's a possible. IH has a great selection, but not great prices, with only the basic Type 3 being cheap on Rakuten. I'd like any of their more unusual or longer styles, but unless I see a 25% drop, I'm out.

I'm not really a Nudies fan, but I really like the look of a Nudies "Dry" Conny. They fade in a crazy cool way, and can be had for cheap. Except for that damn line work on the yoke.

honestly, that jacket is the best thing that ever happened to me. i think i've rambled on quite a few times about it so i'll shut up. but if you have the inclination to grab one this fall, i wouldn't suggest you hesitate.

I'd say denim jackets are iconic Americana. I've got an old made in USA sherpa lined jacket, that I'll bust out on occasion for a dirty chore that needs to be done. I have enough heavy denim shirts, that now double for either a shirt, or layer, and use as a jacket, and find that more versatile. In addition, I wear my denim shirts with, or without a T shirt, but a denim jacket without something underneath, is not a look for me, but I am old.

I've been thinking about getting Ciano's car coat in a nice dark indigo denim. I like the idea of a little more length to it vs the Type 2's and Type 3's. And I agree with bentin that tonal stitching is the way to go. A jacket is going to take me years to fade anyway.

I never have to worry because I wear denim jackets but I don't wear denim jeans. I have about 6 denim/ type III jackets. I mix and match. For some reason I like the way a deep indigo trucker jacket looks when paired with light colored chinos, for example.
I also have a corduroy trucker jacket I wear with navy chinos cuffed and Clark's.

i think you guys are being critical of that element but to each their own. check it out with some seasons of wear on it: http://instagr.am/p/6QxYQWnq8y Love the look, can't get behind the no buttoning the cuff thing.

Love the look, can't get behind the no buttoning the cuff thing. yep. I like it too but for the life of me I can't understand why 3sixteen can't make the cuffs a little bigger. I like Rogue Territory's dark supply jacket personally. It's not your typical type 3 trucker, so it gets bonus points for being a little different

I prefer to button my cuffs as well but I have some dress shirts and a jacket that I can't if I want to wear my watch and Fitbit. May be the same thing for bugula or he could just prefer them unbuttoned, which is totally cool as well.

would recommend trying one on first before going after it.
i've got three supply jackets and though i like the fit of them, there's something about them that gets me down. i think it's that they're trying to be something they're not...but don't get me wrong, i like 'em and wear 'em but there's something just slightly off about the look.
to that point, the ridgeline is great and i think the canvas is perfect for that style...it's the denims that feel off.

Pants, dress shirt and tie with a denim jacket can be worn pretty darn well.

I can see how the supply jacket wouldn't be everyone's cuppa tea, especially in the denim variety. I've seen the dark supply jacket on discount through several retailers but just couldn't bring myself to buy one. I think it was because I was worried about crocking, and what to wear with it. I do love the Ridgeline though, sadly, the few places that have offered it on sale are now sold out, so I missed out
