@untucked : I'm inspired by your SS Converse (but not the wait or what I'm guessing is an obscene price) . . . so, fun Chuck Taylor project which may or may not involve veg tan leather. I found these gum soled chucks for cheap, and deconstruction commenced.

But, he told me he had to order a second pair after finally realizing that no matter how much skiving you do, the leather thickness will make the shoe too small internally based on it's original size. Either way, you will have some BOSS kicks really soon!!!

Either way, you will have some BOSS kicks really soon!!! I'm only using 4oz leather, so I'm hoping the internal sizing won't be an issue. A 12 chuck runs a bit big on me, so the sizing should ultimately work out. BTW, it's amazing how fast a pair of chucks will come apart with a garment steamer. I tried using acetone, but that really doesn't seem to dissolve the glue. All I got was a bad buzz from the fumes. Any rate, low tops + thinner leather should = great summer shoes. If this works out, I'm thinking indigo dipped leather would be a good makeup as well.

I'm curious to see what you come up with! Also, he had issues with the glue binding the leather to the soles. Ended up having to stitch them.

IHW-01 Melton Wool ShirtJac/CPO Off IHUK BST? I had first dibs on the CPO, but couldn't pull on them because I already had a black Wallace and Barnes one from Jcrew that gets zero wears. Looks great though.

World war 2 impressions boots. I bought them too big. Not sure I'd keep them either way. I'm looking for something with sturdier leather. The upper leather is thick but the toe area is flimsy. It doesn't even keep its shape. Still on the hunt for a boondocker type boot. The sole is nice but not worth keeping in my mind.

I'd guess that most of the us made boondockers come out of the same factory.

mkeview - you're probably looking for something more like the trench boot from oak street bootmakers, I think that your complaint is likely the style of boot more than the maker. Those or wolverine 1ks will get you close to the toe profile of these but get you some thicker leather. These are kind of a tall desert boot from what I understand, not really meant to be as sturdy as a work boot and more of a predecessor to the jungle boot. Flexible and durable but lighter weight to ease mobility (though they're all about as comfortable as a concrete bench in February).

I think people get confused when buying reproduction boots... Remember, these were MASS PRODUCED, wartime issue items, and in WWII, Uncle Sam only created boots good enough to last 3 months (That was the life expectancy of a pair of boots). They weren't made using the highest quality leather, stitching or soles... Even the waxed laces are crap, lol. But, you should be comforted in knowing, from looking at the pic you posted, that leather looks better than what is used in boots for TODAY'S military. These are the best looking "Boondocker" type boots I've seen offered, but, they cost a pretty little penny: brass-tokyo.shop-pro.jp/?pid=93562594

I have a love/hate relationship with my BR Service Shoes.... Lol! They look great with everything, but they're flimsy... But, I know that they are fairly accurate... But I want them to be sturdier..........

It's maybe a half size bigger than I need, but I'm gonna give it a hot dry cycle to try and fix that. It's REALLY nice, and actually heavier than my Filson Mackinaw Cruiser. I don't see how this isn't an annually produced item. Now, I'll continue my search for the grey and navy versions

The leather is extremely thick. Odd they'd choose a thinner leather for the service shoes.

I would say it's only about 1/8" thick, if that. I mean, it's still leather, so it obviously has some level of durability... I love the silhouette of the service shoes so much, so it's really a shame. But, that's why I have Brian making me a pair in black cxl horsehide

I wonder if that's original spec to be that thin? And if so, it's probably an area where BR could fudge the original spec and nobody would complain.

My experience of 6years in the Army, and 2-3x pairs of boots per year, is that most military boot leather is NOT very thick. I assume it's because thicker leather would cause hot spots and blisters at every crease/roll during long ruck marches and foot patrols.

Picked these up recently. I'd guess styled after the boondockers but a structured toe. Eastland, Jackson 1955. The 1955 line is made in C but solid construction. I'd recommend them to anyone on a budget. Immediately comfy, replaceable insole, Goodyear 270 welt, but I'll never re-sole them. It would cost more than I paid. Oily suede, unlined.

Last day of the Blue Owl Workshop 20% off sale, so I just decided to grab a pair of the RgT Officer Trousers in Bronze Selvedge. Also the Bond peacoat is on sale at East Dane for 60% off so I got that as well.

Holy Grail.... IHAS-02, size large. Previous owner cut out the liner, which is fine with me.
