Aaaaaaaaand, I've finally gone and done it guys..... I'm so in love with Mister Freedom jacket, and I've been looking for something particular (Natty leather jacket), so all things considered, I decided on the Campus Jacket. There are lots of Japanese brands that are making natural leather jackets, and many in horsehide, but most are styled as type 2's or type 3's. I think the more fluid shape of the MF will lend itself to more versatile outfit options. Not to mention, it's of of the Made in America items MF offers. I paid for expedited shipping in hopes that I can get it before I go up to mainland next week. The weather is more mild up there, so I could get some wears in I'm sure it was a cheap piece! Haha just kidding. Looks sweet can't wait to see how it ages. If it's any consolation.... For once, there's a piece that 2x price on Rakuten compared to normal (American) retail price

@untucked , I imagine your Role Clubs must cost serious money. If you need a cheaper, almost certainly as sturdy, version for knocking around, look at these William Lennon Derbys. They're almost identical to yours, you can customise the hide, soles and inner for no cost or very little, and they only cost about $255 hand made to your specs. I have two pairs of these with Vibram 100 soles and they're solid as hell.

Did you just email them back and forth to ask about the options?

seth , yes, just emails and phone calls. They're very friendly and helpful. They sent me samples of 5 or 6 hides and I chose black cxl (I think) and burgundy full grain. Vibram soles are one of the many options they don't advertise, as are Dainite. Vibram was no cost. I also had them lined with leather for only £10 extra. This search on TFL has many Lennon posts and threads, and there's a dedicated thread there somewhere. You'll get ideas of what they can do from there. I think everyone who buys from them is delighted with the quality at such a low price. I certainly was. Pretty much unknown in the US, but it's small-scale boot making at it's best. Now that the pound is so weak, it's a real bargain for US buyers. Delivery is in about 2 months I think. My two...

We don't see enough on there about brands from the UK. The few things I have are top notch.

@61scout , yeah, I found them from TFL and like everyone else was really pleased with their product and service. They do themselves no favours by not advertising any custom options, even though they'll do just about anything. I think they're just a small company who have a waiting list and don't need or want to expand as they have enough work to keep them going forever. They're way better than anything else at the price, and still better than many much more expensive makers. A popular one is the WW1 Service Boot, but they also do much cheaper basic, rock solid work boots. And they're all resoleable, making them even better value.

It seems like a lot these smaller established companies have absolutely no marketing budget at all. A place like this has generations of knowledge passed from craftsman to craftsman it's good to see them survive. I need more boots like a hole in the head, but will keep them in mind.

wdw - roll club boots aren't cheap....like not even close to being cheap....like throw inexpensive out the window. They are a true luxury item no doubt but his work is 100% top notch.

brentkuz, yeah I know they're about $1,300 for his engineer boots, although whether they're twice as good as custom Wesco and White's or 5 times as good as Lennon, RW etc I can't say. I'd rather save the difference for other stuff, but I don't doubt he does great work.

I couldn't imagine a pair is worth over 1k but that is where luxury items come into play.

The denim book is dated 2007, vol. 155, and I can't imagine the date on the boots book. It doesn't list a year, but it's vol. 55, so we'll older than the other.

They are chocolate moss rough out. Not really suede like at all. They photograph weird. Not sure if they are staying. Got mine also. I like them. Glad I went with my true size. They feel narrower than most work boots and a smaller toe box. What don't you like about them? I'll wear them in the fall.

Just trying to figure what I would pair them with besides my brown 816.

I'm gonna give them a run with a few outfits. Trying to justify them. I have the chippewa cordovan 1901's and iron rangers and a pair of 875's I've never worn.
