And they are hand stitched so easily the most labor intensive. It's really not seen but I much prefer it. He has a few videos that are cool to watch for those who are interested, also one about a tannery.

Wouldn't the cost of stitching be the highest? The only reason to use Chicago screws is to change out the buckle. The only reason to use rivers is cost. I see very few heavy leather belts with stitching. The thicker the leather the harder it would be to stitch. You can buy 100 yards of thread for the cost of ten rivets, you can buy about 5 rivets for the cost of a complete Chicago Screw. I noted that stitching would take the longest, therefore be the most expensive in labor. Anyone professionally stitching heavyweight belts is likely doing so with a pattern and a jig (which is less expensive than a rivet press, but likely more than a hammer and rivet setter).

You could soldier them as well, although that would likely drive up the labor cost and definitely the materials cost when you factor in the flux. In order of cost (factoring in labor), from highest to lowest: Soldier, Locktite, nail polish.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on matching belts to shoes. Gustin was my gateway into developing a more mature personal style after finishing school, and it was a pretty safe way to get different colors and fabrics to experiment with. I wanted to get a couple belts to match some of the Gustin shoes I've gotten. However I feel a bit nervous trying to match shades. As an example, consider one of the pairs of shoes I bought: Blue Gum Sole High Top www.weargustin.com/store/2069Gustin themselves noted there were variations in the color of the leather, and they don't explicitly state where the leather came from. The Horween leather seems easier to pair because I would probably just have to search for a Horween leather belt of the same type. How would you guys ago about finding a belt that matched a pair of shoes like those?

Indigo Quick Release BeltI've created a code to offer this forum 10% off: SELVEDGESTYLE If you were interested, but weren't feeling the quick release belt, I'd be happy to work with you, I've done custom orders with roller buckles for instance. No one else out there is really doing the indigo thing, so your options may be limited. Cheers man, best of luck. Those shoes are really cool btw, PF Flyers did a limited release in a similar palette that I was desperate to find, wish I would have known about those gustins at the time!

OK, this is an obscure and specific request, but that seems to be what this forum is good at. I want a nylon belt, MiUSA, mostly for wearing with shorts. This one from Topo looks OK, but I would prefer a square or rectangular buckle thingy: topodesigns.com/collections/accessories/products/web-beltHave at it...

nate001 not sure if it's too tactical, but you could just do an all black or coyote tan so it's understated. Also, they usually have a 25%-30% off if you spend more than $50. www.originalsoegear.com/collections/belts/products/trouser-beltThey have a g-hook belt but it may be too tactical for your needs. I have two of the belts from him, but many other companies make them as well.

Thanks for the suggestions @david and drewcandraw. I can't access the original SOE gear site from here at work. The filters must think its too military...ha. The Bison design belts look nice and are about half as much as the topo belt. Might have to give one a try. I wonder if Bison makes the belts for Topo? They look very similar and are both in Colorado.

David's suggestion may be cheaper and faster to receive compared to SOE as it's made to order unless he has stock.

I think I probably need to upgrade my belt. The one I have is probably 10years old and from Banana Republic. I don’t really know anything about leather, but I don’t think it’s super high quality or anything. these lines running across the belt, is that some defect? Loose grain or something? On the inside it says genuine Italian leather, which, as I now understand, is basically crap, right? anyway, thinking of doing a veg tan, with a stainless buckle. Here’s a couple I’m debating: leatherworksminnesota.com/store/classic-belt-1-12-naturalwww.tannergoods.com/collections/belts/products/standard-belt-natural-stainlessI like the buckle from tanner better. The price is better from Leatherworks...plus it’s made in the same town I live. Opinions? Other directions? also, how quickly can I expect the veg tan to darken? From what I understand I can hasten the darkening with mink oil, right?

Mink oil will wildly accelerate the aging. A lighter conditioner like Bick #4 will be much milder.
Tanner has 10% off for new customers on their website, I'm looking for a wallet. But I keep coming back to One Star Leather, I have a few of his belts and really like them. But I may just cane and get a Vermilyea Pelle horse one.

Also, will the nickel buckles wear to expose brass underneath? That’s what I have going on right now with my current belt buckle. I would prefer a matte nickel buckle but only if it didn’t wear to show brass underneath.

I like my Corter belts. The latigo squeaks a bit.
I like my Strike Gold one more though. Much more sturdy and just nicer to use. For the price Corter is good though.

Quiet, not a ton of stretch, haven't needed any conditioning. Hard to beat. I love my VP bag too, so it's kinda hard to pick between the two for a wallet. Noting wrong with Tanner, but nice to support the little guys too.

nate001 I got hella belts in my rotation - 1350 Leather Big Hoss Belt, has the most patina from wear and most supple - daltech force (i got like 3 variations- my edc gun belt)- you can do 1/4" thick or get normal 3/8" thickness (prolly indestructible) - black leather roller belt from Recycled Firefighter (iono leather seems kinda stiff and cheap but I have not worn it alot) - Dont Mourn, Organize- brass roller in natural leather that is starting to gain more patina. I have teardrop holes on this one as I thought it was interesting - SOE edc duty cobra buckle belt - g hook edc low profile belt - basketweave bianchi belt
