I've had a pair of AO aviators for a few years, and they have held up perfectly. Seller is retired Marine, and lots of options for lense sizes, temples, and colors, plus liked that I could get glass lenses! www.aoeyewearonline.com/Home_Page.php

Exactly! Quality is there, better price, and heck, you can even buy parts if you want to swap out a different style temple. Plus, I'd rather support the business of a military vet!

I don't wear sunglasses often but I do have several pair lying around. I have the 52mm AO aviators and a pair of Mosley Tribes aviatrix sunglasses that I can't seem to find. Due to my ever evolving tastes i've now gravitated towards Persol and there's a pair that Warby Parker just introduced that looks kinda cool.

Haha it's what I suspected...the people here rock similar shades. And I've had Randolph for years because it's what gramps wore.
And I paid the same amount for my Randolph as AO sells theirs for. They are good glasses though, AO. I prefer both to Ray Ban.

Pretty sure the two are made to the same spec, the expensive brand is just the one that happens to be under government contract at the time. You would think that'd make them cheaper, but I guess government contract work is like insurance. The more you're making, the more you charge.

Ray Ban's stink they are flimsy. The only one I liked was the caravan and they got rid of it.
AO is better but RE blows the doors off. I get them for work on the towns buck so I can't bitch.

I wear the RE aviators as well. I go with the 52mm and prescription lenses. I got them used on eBay for $25 and couldn't be happier. Really solid frames and they are absolutely timeless.

Maui Jim are my favorite. I've got some RB, but the MJ's are my go to most of the time - and the one's I've lost 3x @$300+ each. I can't seem to keep them as I don't wear them enough to get into a habit, so I leave them every time...

Is it the lenses, the build, or your cost that results in doors blown off? Frame of the RE aviators vs ray ban caravans is not even close. The RE is solid thicker and not flimsy. The ray bans just feel cheaper with the thin frame. RE uses glass polarized lens pretty sure RB uses plastic but I'm unsure. What I do know if RE lens provide very good anti-glare properties. Which I find very important and I only use polarized lens. Cost is a non factor for me. I buy a pair of sunglasses ever year for work on my town account.

I do like AO but the only pair I have worn was a 1980's US NAVY pair and they just weren't for me since they were kinda old and I didn't want to get all new rubber.

Can't do glass lenses since I like to be able to use them when inevitably forgot my actual cycling glasses. I like my Ray Bans, and plastic frames.

I have the RB3386, and they've held up pretty well so far. I considered paying $300+ for a pair, but I lose accessories, gloves/hats/sunglasses, like it's my job. I'm just really glad I haven't lost these in the year I've had them.

Another +1 for AO pilot glasses. I got some in 52MM and put RX lenses in them about 5 years ago. They are going strong. I like that they are a Massachusetts company. I also have a pair of Shuron Freeway (with RX.) www.shuron.com/freeway.htmThey are an old American company, very affordable and very sturdy. They invented the "combo" frame that everyone knows from the 50s/60s (I have some of them as eyeglasses also.)

I have worn cheapies but have been a Rayban fan. My eyes can be sensitive to the sun so I wear them on sunny or bright days, especially driving. I did check out the Randolph Engineering Caravan and Aviator styles. Almost bought a pair. Will have to check out AO Eyewear also. I like the RB Aviator style but the normal size is a little big for my face. I have seen you can get the smaller size for a decent price online. Will get a pair at some point. These are my main glasses. Suncloud Aviator- Polycarbonate lens. A midpriced brand but seem to be great quality for the price. Ray Ban Caravan- Glass lens. These are the smaller size and I scored them on Ebay. They are a vintage pair but were like new.

Love the caravan look. What mm are they? 52mm just looks too small.
