Oh year, they'll shrink. The reason I did a cold wash, and hang dry with my 18oz pair is that it came with about an inch shorter inseam, and I didn't want to loose any on the length. Have you sized these so you don't have to cuff? And how have they softened up? 18oz just seems so daunting in Duck, like it would never loosen up. OTOH I have a 20 some year old carhartt that is pretty soft now. A 34" inseam for me is perfect for not cuffing, and that said, would want it to come with a 35" to account for shrinkage. Duck soften up wonderfully over time, and the 180z is no exception. I use my 18oz for doing a lot of hiking, and climbing in the woods around here, and they feel like a soft heavyweight chino now.

So he's got the pre and post wash waist sizes listed, but wouldn't the waist stretch back out after wearing them if they shrink? I usually go with a true size 31 so I'm wondering if I should get a size 28 or 29, looking at the twill and duck fabric in particular. Try emailing him, explaining what you'd like for a final size fit (after wash and wear/stretch)

The duck shrinks and never stretches back out, at least not the way denim will. I had to give my CFD duck pants away after a cold wash and tumble.

Yeah, my general rule of thumb with chinos is to buy true to size because I've never had any real shrink or stretch in the waist. The only thing I've ever had change is the inseam will always shrink and I do think the thighs tighten slightly after a few months of wash and dry.

My 15oz duck chinos showed up with at least a 17.5 in waist for size 31 -- obviously CF is confident they'll shrink 2in after washing. I'll see if they do...

In Gustins Slim I wear a 38, in CF 901 I take a 36.

I would love to hear any opinions on the knee and cuff sizing of the 997 Miner fit. I love the higher rise in this cut, but do like a slightly tapered look that forces me to put my shoes on after my denim. I'm considering a custom adjustment, but I don't know how much is too much when it comes to getting the knee and cuff modified. Thanks in advance.

Curious about an answer
